Protection and obligations
For a worshipper, it removes most disease and health-draining debuffs. Someone who does not worship Emberus instead takes on the debuffs of sufferers within fifty feet. The wearer cannot simply remove or sell it to escape the temple debt, and unpaid fees can weaken its protection.[2]

History
Book 6

A flashback shows Carl paying to have one of his Strength rings transformed. The price is one million gold: ten thousand upfront and 990,000 borrowed from the temple. The scene does not identify which of his earlier rings was used.[1]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
The ring later reduces Soul Poisoning caused by stored souls, though it does not stop the affliction completely.[3]
