Appearance and personality

Holiday first appears in the uniform of Darrow’s guards. Once she reveals herself as an ally, she uses practical instructions and occasional humor to keep him moving. She is loyal and experienced, but willing to argue when she thinks a plan is wrong.[1]

Attributes and abilities

Holiday’s Legion experience covers firearms, explosives, infiltration and rescue. At Attica, she uses an EMP and conventional weapons to give the group a brief advantage. She knows how to handle survival equipment and how little time they have to escape.[1]

As commander of the Lionguard, Holiday protects Virginia but will refuse an unlawful order. She says she would not assassinate Dancer. During the Senate attack, security restrictions keep her outside and prevent her reaching Virginia in time.[2]

History

Book 3

Morning Star

Holiday and her brother Trigg reveal their Sons allegiance during Darrow’s transfer and connect him with Sevro. She administers snakebite to make escape physically possible, then reluctantly accepts the detour to retrieve Victra. On the landing pad Aja kills Trigg, and Holiday is shot before the underground rescue reaches the survivors.

She returns to service with the Howlers, helps retrieve companions from vacuum and joins the mission into the Obsidian homeland. Her knowledge of cold-weather stores and her cover fire matter as much as her willingness to fight. She later helps unmask the Golds posing as gods.

During the Rim campaign, Holiday helps organize the boarding attack. She warns Darrow that thousands of lowColors are still at Ganymede’s docks before he orders their destruction. Later, she tells him about Trigg’s hopes and his fiancé, Ephraim. After the victory, she works with Sefi to move Obsidians away from the poles.[1]

Book 4

Iron Gold

Holiday still tries to reach Ephraim through their shared grief, but refuses to accept his cruelty as the price of continuing that relationship. When the children are kidnapped, she helps investigate and identifies him through the recovered pistol.

Holiday helps restrain Lyria while an Oracle is used to interrogate her, despite the lack of evidence against her. She later explains how Ephraim was tortured and his tormentor pardoned. To force his help rescuing the children, she uses his concern for Volga against him.[3]

Book 5

Dark Age

As commander of Virginia’s Lionguard, Holiday is both protector and someone willing to refuse a wrongful order. She rejects a hypothetical assassination of Dancer, and Virginia instead tells her to protect him.

Senate security keeps her outside during the Day of Red Doves. She fights to reach Virginia but cannot get through in time. Later she leads the extraction after Virginia escapes her captors and urges retreat to Mars. Virginia releases her from blame for the failed rescue.[2]

Book 6

Light Bringer

Holiday remains beside Virginia through the defense of Phobos, supervising security, managing delegated combat and pressing for evacuation. In the escape from the Nucleus she protects Virginia, is badly wounded by Apollonius and offers to stay behind. Virginia seeks another way. Holiday survives and reaches treatment, then warns against becoming accustomed to the human cost of the war.[4]

Relationships

Trigg ti Nakamura

Trigg follows Holiday into military service and dies helping her rescue Darrow. She later tells Darrow about the future he hoped to share with Ephraim.[5]

Darrow

Holiday helps save Darrow and fights beside him, but does not always agree with his decisions. She warns him about the thousands of lowColors still at Ganymede’s docks before he orders the attack.[6]

Ephraim ti Horn

Holiday still considers Trigg’s fiancé part of her family. She wants Ephraim to recover, but refuses to keep accepting his cruelty. After the kidnapping, she uses Volga to force him to help rescue the children.[3]

Mustang

Virginia trusts Holiday to speak honestly and refuse a wrongful order. She does not blame her for failing to get through Senate security during the coup.[2]

Badly wounded on Phobos, Holiday offers to stay behind so Virginia can escape. Virginia finds another way to bring her out. After surviving, Holiday warns her against getting used to the war’s losses.[7]
