Equipment · Introduced in Book 3
Katia's mass backpack
Carl builds Katia’s mass backpack so she can carry scrap as equipment and use it to enlarge her body. It gives her far more material to shape than her normal body alone.[1]

Shaping extra mass
The first test adds about one and a quarter tons. Katia needs roughly thirty seconds to arrange it into a standing form. Losing more than half her mass leaves her briefly unformed. Adding mass raises Strength but lowers Dexterity.
Putting weapons inside the backpack does not turn them into usable body mass, and their enchantments do not carry over into armor she shapes. Her biological core remains vulnerable inside even a huge exterior.[2]

History
Book 3
The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook
Katia first clears a track using about half her available mass. She then widens the backpack herself, adds metal and rubber and proposes turning her body into a plow on the front of the Vermillion train.
Her spiked scoop clears wreckage, which she moves into inventory. The large outer shell still leaves the cab containing her core in need of protection.[2]

Book 3
The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook
Outside the active dungeon, the backpack looks small again but keeps its considerable physical weight.[3]
