ACOTAR Books 6 and 7 Finally Have Titles, Covers, and Plot Details

After more than five years without a new A Court of Thorns and Roses book, fans finally know the names of the next two installments.

Sarah J. Maas revealed the official titles and covers for ACOTAR Books 6 and 7 on Monday. The next book will be titled A Court of Splintered Harmony, while the seventh entry in the series is officially A Court of Forgotten Melody.

The announcement also confirmed a new name for this section of the story: The Valkyrie Cycle.

A Court of Splintered Harmony is labeled “Movement I,” while A Court of Forgotten Melody will contain “Movements II & III.” The musical language carries across both titles and helps explain how Maas is structuring this unusually large story.

Both books are currently available for preorder. Page counts can still change before publication, but the current listings make one thing clear: the second volume will be considerably larger than the first.

The Official Plot of A Court of Splintered Harmony

The newly released description confirms that Koschei the Deathless will be the central threat facing Prythian.

Still imprisoned at his mountain lake, Koschei is beginning to extend his influence across the Fae territories. Powerful allies are gathering around him, united by a desire to reclaim the human lands.

The Night Court intends to intervene, but Prythian has yet to fully recover from the war with Hybern. Forming a united defense is becoming increasingly difficult, especially as recent betrayals and revelations create new divisions among the people responsible for protecting the Night Court.

The description points toward a story about repairing damaged alliances before Koschei can take advantage of them. It also suggests that the conflict will extend far beyond a single court or romantic pairing.

What We Know About A Court of Forgotten Melody

The seventh book raises the stakes even further.

According to Bloomsbury’s official description, Prythian’s traditional alliances are beginning to collapse as Koschei’s threat grows. Members of the Night Court’s Inner Circle will disperse across the world in search of any advantage they can find.

The publisher also teases shifting power, tested bonds and the return of enemies connected to the characters’ pasts.

Its accompanying line reads: “What was lost will be reclaimed.”

Combined with the title A Court of Forgotten Melody, that language raises plenty of questions about what, or who, might be returning. The official description does not identify the book’s primary point-of-view characters or confirm its central romance.

What Does “The Valkyrie Cycle” Mean?

The name is almost certainly the most important part of the reveal.

Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie formed a new generation of Valkyries during A Court of Silver Flames. Calling the next story “The Valkyrie Cycle” strongly indicates that their order will play a major role in the coming conflict.

That does not necessarily mean the books will focus exclusively on the three Valkyries. The descriptions emphasize Koschei, the Night Court’s Inner Circle and a struggle spanning multiple territories. A story divided across four “movements” could easily support several narrators and interconnected romances.

The titles themselves also appear carefully connected. “Splintered harmony” describes the fractured alliances at the beginning of the story, while “forgotten melody” suggests something lost to history may become essential to resolving the conflict.

ACOTAR Book 8 Will Complete the Story

Despite receiving two books within less than three months, readers should not expect A Court of Forgotten Melody to conclude the new storyline.

During her March appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Maas explained that she conceived the project as one enormous narrative divided into four parts. The story became too large to publish as a single physical book.

The current release structure is:

1. A Court of Splintered Harmony contains Movement I.
2. A Court of Forgotten Melody contains Movements II and III.
3. A future eighth ACOTAR book will contain Movement IV.

Maas stressed that these are not intended to function like a conventional trilogy with a completed arc in every volume. Instead, readers should think of them as three physical books containing one continuous story.

The eighth book does not yet have a title or release date. Maas said in March that its final movement had not yet been written.

A Long-Awaited Return to Prythian

A Court of Splintered Harmony will be the first new ACOTAR release since A Court of Silver Flames arrived in February 2021.

The world has not been entirely absent during that five-year wait. Characters and mythology from Prythian played an important role in Maas’s 2024 novel House of Flame and Shadow, creating direct connections between ACOTAR and the Crescent City series.

With Koschei finally moving to the center of the conflict, the Valkyries entering a new cycle and three physical volumes planned for a single story, Maas appears to be setting up the largest ACOTAR storyline yet.

A Court of Splintered Harmony releases October 27, 2026. A Court of Forgotten Melody follows on January 12, 2027.
