John Gwynne’s The Faithful and the Fallen is in development for a television series, according to an announcement captured in a video shared by George & the Dragons on October 28. The four-book epic fantasy begins with Malice and follows a growing conflict in the Banished Lands, a world of rival kingdoms, giants, angels and demons.
In the short announcement clip, the series is described as “now in development for a major TV series.”
What Has Been Announced
The clip names The Faithful and the Fallen, but does not identify a production company, broadcaster, streaming service, writer or cast. It also gives no filming schedule or release date. Development does not guarantee that a series will reach production, so there is no confirmed premiere to put on the calendar yet.
Gwynne has spoken about screen interest before. During his October 2024 Reddit AMA, a reader asked whether he had received serious offers to adapt his work. He replied that there had been enquiries about film and television, but nothing definite at that point.
The Books Behind The Faithful and the Fallen
The story begins with Corban, a young boy who wants to become a warrior and serve his king. Around him, the Banished Lands are showing signs of an old conflict returning. Giants are stirring, strange omens are appearing, and the ambitions of rulers threaten to pull their kingdoms into war.
Corban is one of several viewpoint characters. Others include Veradis, a gifted swordsman serving Prince Nathair, and Evnis, whose pursuit of power helps drive the wider struggle.
In a publisher interview about the series, Gwynne described drawing on ancient history alongside Celtic and Norse mythology. His research included Caesar’s Gallic War, the Roman invasion of Britain and Boudicca’s revolt. He wanted the Banished Lands to feel like an alternative ancient Europe where mythical creatures were real.
The main series is complete. Its reading order is Malice, Valour, Ruin and Wrath; U.S. editions spell the second title Valor. Readers can start with Malice without having read Gwynne’s other books.
