The beginner-friendly box brings Roshar to a much bigger retail audience, with rules, an adventure, dice, maps, tokens, and ready-made characters included.
The Cosmere RPG: Stormlight Starter Set, by Brotherwise Games, is now available at Target for $24.99.
What Comes in the Stormlight Starter Set?
Despite Target filing it under board games, this is a tabletop roleplaying game starter box. One player runs the adventure as the game master, while the rest take control of characters and decide how the story unfolds.
The box includes a:
- Condensed 60-page rulebook
- Bridge Nine, a 48-page introductory adventure for first-level characters.
- Battlemaps
- Creature and character tokens
- Six pregenerated character sheets
- Six initiative cards
- A standard set of polyhedral dice
- The Cosmere RPG’s custom Plot Die

An Entry Point
The $24.99 box is designed to teach the rules and guide a group through one opening adventure. It does include not the complete Stormlight Handbook, the Stormlight World Guide, or the full Stonewalkers campaign. Groups that finish Bridge Nine and want a longer campaign will likely want the additional products.
The Starter Set provides enough material to begin, but it is best understood as a lower-cost doorway into the wider Cosmere RPG line. Brotherwise Games lists the full RPG books at roughly $50 to $60 each, making the Target box a much easier first purchase for a group that is not ready to commit to the complete line.
From a $15 Million Kickstarter to the Target Aisle
The retail expansion follows one of the biggest tabletop crowdfunding campaigns ever. The Cosmere RPG Kickstarter raised more than $15.1 million from 55,106 backers in August 2024, far beyond its original $250,000 goal.
The game debuted with its Stormlight setting in fall 2025. Brotherwise Games said during its Gen Con 2026 Cosmere panel that the line entered the market as the No. 2 bestselling RPG in ICv2’s rankings and remained in the top 10 into spring 2026.
Its ambitions also extend beyond Roshar. The system was built as a growing RPG for Brandon Sanderson’s connected universe, with support for standalone adventures and campaigns that cross between worlds. The Mistborn setting is next, with its public digital release planned for September 2026 and its retail launch expected this November.
