Introduction
Appearance and Personality
Florin has a crocodile-like body with green scales, claws and a large head. The opening Iron Tangle leaderboard lists him as a level-twenty-four Crocodilian Shotgun Messenger.[2]
Florin is devastated by Ifechi’s death and stays beside her body while the other crawlers leave. He says that he is from France, though Carl thinks he sounds Australian. Before the Collapse, he was in Africa.[3]
Florin initially wants revenge on Lucia for Ifechi’s death. Meeting a frightened child speaking through Lucia changes his mind. He begins trying to protect the children sharing her body, even though he is still grieving.[4]
At the masquerade, Florin notices that Lucia is frightened and behaving differently. He agrees not to provoke her while Carl and the others try to understand what is wrong.[5]

Attributes and Abilities
Florin begins the Iron Tangle as a level-twenty-four Crocodilian Shotgun Messenger and continues climbing through the rankings. His high position puts a bounty on his head: the displayed gold is a reward for killing him, not money he has won.[6]
Florin fights with a magically modified Mossberg shotgun that has unlimited ammunition. On the fifth floor, he conquers three castles alone before the Air castle stops his progress.[22]
Florin helps build and defend the Princess Posse’s headquarters. He plans battlefield operations, prepares for enemy defenses against their new aircraft and uses a retained caiman card to move part of a wall.[7]
Florin captures the Unique card Heyzoos but nearly dies trying to control its creature. With his squad already full, he gives the card to Donut.
Before descending, Florin tests whether teleport traps can be placed inside stairwell chambers. They cannot, ruling out one possible route for the rescue.[8]
During the races, Florin uses an upgraded GPS to share route information and coordinate with other teams. He also tries to delay Sparkles as the teams’ tracks and hazards cross.[9]

Book 3
The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook
Still in contention
Florin remains prominent in the recaps as he advances through the Iron Tangle. Most of his route is outside Carl’s view.[6]
Choose Book 3 or later above to read this part of the history.
Book 4
The Gate of the Feral Gods
Losing Ifechi
A recap shows Lucia and her dogs confronting Florin, Ifechi and another crawler near the stairs. When Florin attacks, Lucia’s protection redirects the damage to Ifechi and kills her. The system awards Florin a gold player-killer mark. He stays beside her body while the others descend.
Florin survives the next floor and conquers three castles, but cannot take the Air castle. He is the last crawler saved during the first phase of Carl’s rescue. He carries a modified Mossberg shotgun with magical unlimited ammunition. Later, he thanks Carl and explains that meeting Elle and hearing about Carl’s kindness gave him a reason to continue after Ifechi’s death. He offers his gun in support and prepares to join Katia’s group.[10]

Book 5
The Butcher’s Masquerade
Preparing to confront Lucia
Florin is glad to hear that Lucia survived the Alucarda battle because he still wants revenge. During coalition planning, he tells the others to leave her to him. At the masquerade, however, her frightened behavior makes him reconsider. He also helps Bautista hold Katia back from attacking Eva.
Imogen’s use of Ifechi’s twin sister gives Florin another painful reminder of his loss. Having already met her through the Popov brothers, he refuses Carl’s suggestion that he leave early. He later says there is more to Imogen’s use of her than a resemblance.[11]
Meeting Jill
Florin meets Jill, a seven-year-old Dutch girl speaking through Lucia. Her knowledge of specific political details helps convince him that she is real. He tells Carl that several people, most of them children, appear to share Lucia’s body.
Florin decides to protect the children rather than kill Lucia in revenge. Learning who is trapped inside her changes what he is willing to do, even though it cannot undo Ifechi’s death.[12]

Book 6
The Eye of the Bedlam Bride
Helping from another part of Earth
Florin captures Heyzoos but struggles to control the powerful creature and gives the card to Donut. He also tests the stairwell chambers and discovers that teleport traps cannot be placed inside them.
Li Jun tells Carl that Florin’s kindness helped persuade Lucia to donate Doggie Door upgrades. Her contribution gives the rescue effort more ways to move crawlers to safety.[13]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
A commander with a personal purpose
Florin helps run headquarters and the 101st Crocodiles. He works on construction, prepares for anti-aircraft defenses and coordinates attacks during Faction Wars.
Near the end of the war, Florin explores a deal that could allow him to protect Lucia and the other children at their facility. Before descending, he adds her to his party.[14]

Book 8
A Parade of Horribles
Staying with Lucia
Florin races with Lucia and tries to understand her changes. He records the name Azra when another child’s voice emerges. He continues looking for answers rather than relying entirely on a goddess’s promise.
The final pairings put Florin and Lucia against Louis and Britney. Later, the AI injures Florin after a public presentation. Carl last sees Lucia carrying him toward a portal with a small, unidentified girl beside her. They leave before he can ask where they are going.[15]

Relationships
Ifechi
Ifechi is Florin’s partner, a healer who meets him in the dungeon. Lucia’s reflected damage kills her when Florin attacks, and the system gives him the player-killer mark. He later tells Carl that Ifechi’s kindness had given him hope. Hearing about Carl’s efforts to save strangers helps him believe there is still something worth fighting for.[16]
Imogen appears in the body of Ifechi’s twin sister. Florin has already met her through the Popov brothers, so he knows what to expect. He refuses to leave the operation simply to avoid seeing her.[17]
Lucia
Florin blames Lucia for Ifechi’s death. For a time, he wants to find and kill her.[3]
At the masquerade, Florin speaks to Jill and learns that several frightened children seem to be sharing Lucia’s body. He gives up his immediate revenge and insists that they try to protect her.[18]
Florin continues asking about Lucia. Li Jun later credits his kindness with helping persuade her to give the coalition Doggie Door upgrades for its rescue effort.[19]
Florin looks into a deal that might let him protect the children at their facility. That possibility remains unsettled, but he does bring Lucia into his party before they descend.[20]
Florin keeps racing with Lucia despite her unpredictable changes. After the AI injures him, she carries him toward a portal, accompanied by a small girl Carl does not recognize. Carl does not learn where they are going or what happens to Florin afterward.[21]
Carl and Katia
Carl’s rescue helps Florin recover his willingness to keep going after Ifechi’s death. He thanks Carl, offers to help him fight and joins Katia’s team for the next floor.[22]
Florin becomes a dependable organizer within the coalition. When the party acquires aircraft, he immediately thinks about the enemy weapons they will face and the defenses they need to prepare.[23]
