Introduction
Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk is Beatrice’s prize-winning tortoiseshell Persian cat and Carl’s companion in Dungeon Crawler Carl. She escapes through a window shortly before the Collapse, leaving both her and Carl outside when the buildings disappear. She enters the dungeon with him as crawler 4,119.
Outspoken and accustomed to attention, Donut brings the habits of a champion show cat into the dungeon. She cares about appearances and knows how to win people over. Behind that confidence, she depends on Carl, and their growing partnership becomes central to both of their lives.[1]
Appearance and Personality
Donut is a small tortoiseshell Persian with a long show name and a history of championship wins. The Enhanced Pet Biscuit gives her human-level intelligence and speech while leaving her in a cat’s body. She rides on Carl, keeps familiar feline habits and has plenty to say about the people around her.
Donut’s commanding manner often hides fear. She admits feeling lonely after her first argument with Carl, panics when trapped during a boss fight and is frightened of being hit when she moves close enough to attack.[2]
Donut turns down every alternative race so she can remain a cat. She collects hats and insists on attractive equipment, initially rejecting an unfashionable anklet despite needing its Constitution bonus. Carl builds her a cat tree, but after trying to sleep away from him, she returns to his neck.
Donut is perceptive about entertainment as well as vain. She can anticipate scripted reactions and considers how their public image affects their chances of survival. Carl sometimes wonders how much of her behavior is performed for the cameras. Her fear is real too, particularly when she asks him not to let her die alone.[3]
Killing Ji-Hoon in self-defense leaves Donut shaken and afraid that Carl will hate her. She later downplays it in public. When Katia struggles after violence of her own, Donut draws on that experience to comfort her.
Donut secretly seeks advice about a reward offered for Carl’s death, then throws the coupon away. She does not want to keep discussing the upsetting choice, and Carl initially misunderstands what she has hidden from him.[4]
Mongo seemingly leaving her brings back memories of a car crash and a fear of abandonment. Donut also confronts Beatrice over the plan to give her away. She still loves her former owner but chooses Carl. That loyalty does not silence her when his executions frighten her.
Donut’s dislike of cocker spaniels leads her to support cruelty beyond the dungeon. The Princess Posse’s campaign against the breed has real consequences, and she initially defends its extermination program.[5]
Donut stays beside Carl while his childhood is discussed in public. At his father’s trailer, she offers to handle the encounter for him, then gives him privacy when he chooses to go inside himself.
Leading the card squad frightens Donut because she knows a mistake could kill Carl or Mongo. She asks for an ordinary nap with Carl when the pressure becomes too much. Magical recovery can restore resources, but she still needs rest and reassurance.[6]
Donut motivates her troops with rewards instead of threats. Privately, she describes feeling numb before fear catches up with her and admits wanting the fighting to end. Losing the formal party-leader role troubles her less than the changes she sees in Carl.
Donut agrees to carry out the final attack after being told she can refuse. The victory and new abilities do not take away her grief for Li Jun, Bomo and the others who die. Comfort from the survivors helps her keep going.[7]
A celestial godslayer boon makes Donut’s front claws glow blue when extended and lets them slice through ordinary material. She is upset that the change is permanent. Keeping her claws retracted and wearing silicone caps help her avoid cutting things accidentally. The boon is separate from her Assassin of Sekhmet class.
Donut notices that she has grown more hostile and is less disturbed by killing. She still regrets some deaths and wants Carl to treat her as an equal when his secrecy shuts her out of decisions.[8]

Attributes and Abilities
After eating the biscuit, Donut has Strength 11, Intelligence 11, Constitution 2, Dexterity 8 and Charisma 25. Her combined attributes make her party leader. She names the party the Royal Court of Princess Donut and makes Carl her Royal Bodyguard, a cosmetic title that gives him no extra protection.
Donut’s Charisma helps her negotiate and win over speaking NPCs. It does not work on everyone: the Clurichauns remain hostile even when she can influence their neutralized managers. Her low Constitution also leaves her vulnerable. A glancing blow nearly kills her when she physically intervenes to save Carl.[9]
Donut deliberately chooses Former Child Actor to gain the Manager Benefit and appoint Mordecai, while pretending it was a mistake. Her first specialty is Artist Alley Mogul, which improves her sales. She can also negotiate better prices through Charisma, though the class does not grant a general discount on purchases.
Former Child Actor gives Donut a new specialty on later floors. Changing specialties removes old bonuses, but she can keep progress earned by using their skills. Her stats also include equipment and temporary effects, so not everything shown in the interface is a permanent gain.
Donut’s early spells include Magic Missile, Puddle Jumper, Heal, Heal Critter, Second Chance, Torch and Clockwork Triplicate. They give her ways to attack, move, heal, create light and produce magical copies. Those copies are not living pets. Cockroach later saves her during the shelter disaster, but leaves her badly hurt and needing healing.[10]
Football Hooligan replaces Artist Alley Mogul, costing Donut the old Dexterity and sales bonuses. She keeps the Negotiation levels earned through use. She also practices Dodge until she qualifies for its training guild, though membership does not make further training free.
Donut uses Hole to open routes for Clockwork copies and Puddle Jumper to return from dangerous positions. Her goggles reveal hidden magical attacks during the conflict with Hekla. Reaching one hundred Charisma lets her choose Love Vampire, although she does not demonstrate a successful use of it on this floor.[11]
Glass Cannon improves Donut’s spellcasting, but losing Football Hooligan’s Constitution makes her more vulnerable. The new class’s advertised Constitution gain does not appear as expected, leaving her exact total after the change unclear.
Astral Paw lets Donut manipulate things at a distance, while her copies and ranged spells support Carl’s weapons. Reach Critter extends her healing to Orthrus during the rescue, keeping the puppy alive as he continues taking damage. Further Dodge training grants Deflection, and she learns Twinkle Toes for movement. Anti-magic can still disable these abilities.[12]
Legendary Diva gives Donut bard effects tied to performance, which still require preparation and skill to use. Her Obsidian Bracelet separately grants Fireball, along with Constitution, Dexterity and fire resistance. Fireball comes from the bracelet rather than replacing Magic Missile.
Donut uses Hole to break the anchoring of Lucia’s transport traps, then copies and invisibility to evade pursuit. She eventually closes a Hole around Cici’s neck. Her escape depends on how those particular traps are arranged.
Miriam gives up Get Out of Jail to create a book that teaches it to Donut. Donut uses the spell once Miriam’s death ends Prepotente’s healing lock. Later, species-specific Charm Animal potions make Kiwi and Ferdinand her minions. Kiwi’s pack follows its leader into the alliance rather than each raptor becoming Donut’s minion individually.[13]
Donut briefly chooses Viper Queen before becoming a Master Telephone Psychic on the eighth floor, keeping her bard skills and Venom Spitter. She controls the squad’s card deck, but active card battles restrict her ordinary spellcasting. Carl and Mongo have to protect her as she manages draws and summons.
A practice opponent defeats Donut’s familiar combination by blocking summons, exposing her hand and removing Shi Maria from the battle. A sailor hat later shortens her draw cooldown by two seconds. Wearing it means giving up the Dragonfly tiara’s Intelligence bonus and Hover.
A captured staff lets Donut store a spell for use as a totem; she tests Clockwork Triplicate on Geraldo. The Champion Pack adds two reserve slots, so she can own eight totems with six active at once. Golden Combo can also be reused, unlike the earlier combination card consumed after use.[14]
Deathbed Hellcat extends Donut’s spell range and gives her concealment and assassination abilities. She uses Little Lies to help protect Carl. Her cloak and charging pillows provide further ways to gain power or transfer equipment benefits, although some increases remain temporary.
War Crime gathers its targets while keeping them alive. Donut combines it with an enormous Astral Paw, repeatedly driving the captured enemies through Li Na’s chain lattice. The chains kill them. Casting drains Donut toward one percent health, and Carl cannot heal her while she continues.
After the attack, Donut receives new growth choices for Strength, Intelligence and Charisma. Brain Trust makes her spells work one level above the level displayed. Becoming Nekhebit’s champion adds plant and vermin magic, though the spells can demand large amounts of mana.[15]
Assassin of Sekhmet gives Donut more combat and escape options while preserving and improving her plant and vermin spells. Her radiant claws come from a separate permanent celestial boon. Their cutting effect carries into Astral Paw and can injure ghosts as well as ordinary targets. Retraction and claw caps help her manage them outside combat.
The matching crupper lets Donut raise one spell previously improved by her cloak from fifteen to sixteen. She chooses Puddle Jumper, with Brain Trust making it work a level higher still. Her vermin summons also catches Lucienne, a rival rodent racer, whose unexpected inclusion leads to a fatal encounter with the finish barrier.
Against Emberus, Donut uses a swap trap to change places, the Bolt of Ophiotaurus to remove his invulnerability and a Danforth bolt to pin him. Puddle Jumper then carries her and Carl back to the entrance. The plan depends on using the equipment in the right sequence.[16]

History
Book 1
Dungeon Crawler Carl
Survival, transformation and choosing Carl
Donut escapes through a window, bringing Carl outside just before the buildings collapse. Afterward, she jumps into his arms and goes into the dungeon with him. The system registers her as a crawler even before she can understand the tutorial as he does.
The Enhanced Pet Biscuit turns Donut into a glowing mass before she emerges able to speak. Her commands and insults nearly make Carl leave, but she admits she is frightened and lonely. She remembers his efforts to find housing that would accept her, and they choose to stay together. Her higher combined stats give her the formal role of party leader.[17]
An audience and the Meadow Lark rescue
Donut wants interviews because she sees publicity as a way to survive, while still considering Beatrice her agent. In their first boss fight, her panic, weak missiles and a potion cooldown leave Carl exposed. She later attacks with her claws and teeth to save him, nearly dying from the counterblow.
Donut initially dismisses the goblin civilians killed by Carl’s explosion, upsetting him. She also persuades him to continue helping the Meadow Lark survivors on later floors and publicly promises that help. Her ability to invent cat royalty and entertain viewers gains attention, giving the producers more interest in her behavior.[18]
The crown fear and Mongo
After Charisma fails to stop hostile enemies, Donut admits how much she needs Carl. Learning about the crown’s ninth-floor obligation makes her afraid he will leave her. Carl puts off a decision they cannot yet resolve.
Donut insists on choosing Mongo instead of the grub Carl prefers. Feeding, hunting with and rescuing the dinosaur gradually build their bond. She leaves the training floors with both Carl as her partner and Mongo depending on her.[19]

Book 2
Carl’s Doomsday Scenario
A chosen class and a rescue from the shelter
Donut remains a cat and deliberately selects Former Child Actor, pretending confusion when its Manager Benefit appoints Mordecai. Artist Alley Mogul becomes her first specialty. She still needs equipment to compensate for her low Constitution.
While Carl is involved in the circus quest, Donut does more scouting and fighting on her own. Later, she lies incapacitated inside his shelter, which attracts janitors. Cockroach keeps her alive until a healing scroll restores her. She wakes from a dream about Ferdinand without a clear memory of the emergency.[20]
Negotiation, Katia and a life imagined beyond the crawl
Donut negotiates prices for supplies and ammunition, then rescues Carl after an ambush leaves him unconscious. She is pleased to receive a photograph of Beatrice, even though the gift appears intended to upset her. In private, she asks Carl not to let her die alone.
Donut talks publicly about Ferdinand and imagines writing television with Carl after they escape. Katia’s arrival adds another person to the future she pictures. When Carl tries to take a dangerous role alone, Donut reminds him that being partners means respecting her choices too.[21]
Staying with Katia and losing the crown
During the Remex crisis, Donut refuses to leave Katia and the trapped strangers behind. She also objects to Carl assuming she does not understand death. As magical pulses strip equipment and trigger abilities, she removes the fleeting crown and loses it, although its faction obligation remains.
Donut checks on Carl privately after they escape, before completing the required interview. She leaves at level twenty-six, furious about revoked rewards. Losing the crown has not freed her from its future threat.[22]

Book 3
The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook
A new specialty and her first crawler kill
Football Hooligan replaces Artist Alley Mogul in the Iron Tangle. Donut helps arrange the shared personal space and contributes coupons toward Mordecai’s alchemy table. She keeps Beatrice’s photograph among the comforts of her own room.
Ji-Hoon attacks Donut in the club, and she kills him in self-defense. Her first player-killer skull frightens her, and she worries that Carl will hate her. She later downplays the encounter for viewers. Meanwhile, practicing Dodge raises the skill enough for her to join its guild.[23]
Train routes, the discarded coupon and Hekla
Donut suggests bypassing a blocked route on a faster monster line and later works the turntable controls. She corrects a rail-gauge mismatch, accidentally opens an exit and admits what happened. Her goggles and new spells help the party navigate and scout the train system.
Carl finds a coupon offering a reward for his death and suspects Donut, before learning she had consulted Imani and discarded it. Donut also challenges his efforts to control Katia’s role in the rescue. Later, evidence of Hekla’s covert attack ends Donut’s admiration for her. She fires a full-strength missile and refuses to dismiss the attack as friendly fire, then comforts Katia by describing her own first kill.[24]
Helping the scattered crawlers escape
Donut equips rescue carts with musical alarms so waiting crawlers can hear them coming. Her collection of hats becomes a source of gifts and thanks. She helps draw the province boss through the portal and returns with allies when Carl is caught in the Grull confrontation.
The party survives the generator operation and leaves together. Donut spins the wheels determining their next destination, though the results do not follow her preferences.[25]

Book 4
The Gate of the Feral Gods
Glass Cannon, the balloon and the falling house
Glass Cannon strengthens Donut’s magic while removing her previous Constitution benefits. She uses Astral Paw and copies to help capture the balloon as Carl handles its weapons. She also negotiates for the group, improves animal handling and gives Mongo new fang caps.
Donut stops Carl from killing Chris while Maggie controls him, giving them time to look for a cure. At the falling house, an anti-magic field disables Donut’s spells and healing. She helps Carl use the kitchen machinery to defeat Denise instead.
Loita threatens to remove Mongo, and the commentary board is used against Zev. Donut blames herself when Zev is dismissed. She also objects to the licensed toy’s likeness and branding, though this does not show that she knows about Carl’s planned attack on Loita.[26]
Water, Orthrus and the descent
A collapsing castle crushes and pierces Donut. Carl keeps her alive, but she panics when she wakes underwater. Thinking of Mongo helps her focus. She combines Second Chance and Clockwork Triplicate on a dead beluga to distract a predator.
Donut uses Reach Critter to heal Orthrus throughout the rescue, repeatedly restoring the giant puppy as sharks, weather and the scent lure keep him in danger. She continues during the damaged biplane’s flight. A later fall and heat injury knock her unconscious. When she wakes, she recognizes how cruel the ordeal has been.
Donut coordinates the secret Gate operation with Carl and Katia. After Carl removes Maggie from Chris, Mongo kills the parasite and Donut heals both men. They descend with Chris free, but the attack on Larracos has made the next floor more dangerous.[27]

Book 5
The Butcher’s Masquerade
Point Mongo and Beatrice’s return
Legendary Diva makes performance central to Donut’s abilities. She helps rescue Carl after his secret Zockau attack, then challenges the danger he created for everyone retrieving him. She becomes mayor of Point Mongo. When Mongo seems to leave her, her fear of being abandoned returns.
After Odette announces that Beatrice is alive, Donut insists on meeting her despite Carl’s objections. She controls her response for the cameras, then refuses another take and reveals that she knew Beatrice intended to give her away. She still loves and misses her but calls Carl her person. She also tells him she has passed outside contact information to Zev and the Borant Emancipation Front.[28]
Lucia’s traps and the return ambush
Donut tells Carl that executing Alkand frightened her. Soon afterward, she faces Lucia without him as Lucia pursues Alucarda through transport traps. Donut breaks an anchor with Hole, uses copies and invisibility to escape, then closes a Hole around Cici’s neck, killing one of Lucia’s dogs. She reaches the guildhall and warns Carl.
The group’s extraction uses Clockwork copies of the Sledge and a Donut decoy to set off Lucia’s traps and distract hunters. Donut’s missiles help wear down Vrah’s defense during Carl’s attack. After seeing the broadcast of her earlier escape, Carl apologizes for questioning her decisions. The edited program had made it look as though he was enjoying refreshments while she fought for her life.[29]
A fan network, Miriam and Ferdinand
Carl learns how organized the Princess Posse has become outside the dungeon, including merchandise Donut has already approved. Its anti-spaniel campaign is particularly disturbing. Donut’s influence extends far beyond what she can personally observe or manage.
Donut learns Get Out of Jail from Miriam and waits for the sunrise to end Prepotente’s healing lock before freeing him. She comforts him beside Miriam’s ashes. Later, a carefully prepared charm makes Kiwi her minion, bringing the rest of the raptor pack into their alliance.
Finding Ferdinand among their enemies gives Donut another reason to stay for the masquerade. She refuses to descend without facing him, while making clear that Mongo and her present family still matter. She also objects to Carl killing Iota, despite her loyalty to him.[30]
The performances and the maze’s destruction
Donut prepares her own singing and Mongo’s pageant act, negotiates a restricted route and helps arrange the stage effects. Louis, signal flares, gunfire and Clockwork Triplicate support Mongo’s performance without requiring him to understand the whole production.
Donut first wins Ferdinand over with amplified charm, then makes him her minion using the cat-specific potion. She sings to hold attention and coordinates Tina’s recital and Kiwi’s wand use. Cockroach saves her from another area attack.
When Prepotente destroys the seventh-floor maze, Donut selects Viper Queen during the brief transition. She becomes party leader again after he leaves their temporary group. Her globe selection sends them to a new dungeon destination, rather than back to Earth’s surface.[31]

Book 6
The Eye of the Bedlam Bride
Learning to lead the deck
The squad arrives in a reconstruction of Cuba. Donut chooses Master Telephone Psychic and takes charge of the deck, with Carl and Mongo protecting her during card battles. She collects cards and tests equipment, then loses a practice fight against a deck designed to disable the strategy she has been relying on.
Donut comforts Carl during the public discussion of his childhood. Learning that Katia has a competing crown then makes the coming ninth-floor rule a threat between friends. Katia promises not to fight her, though they still need a way to avoid the conflict.
D’Nadia sells Donut’s sponsorship, upsetting her and distracting her during the difficult practice fight. Later, Donut learns that D’Nadia proposed excluding or deleting the Posse, the NPCs and even Carl and Donut.[32]
The token fights and Carl’s family
Donut begins the next phase alone in Miami before Carl reaches her. She wears a sailor hat to shorten her draw cooldown, sacrificing the tiara’s other benefits. While collecting tokens with the squad, she admits that a bad draw or decision might get her companions killed.
While Carl recovers from the barn battle, Donut tests the captured staff and adjusts the deck. She identifies the final site as his father’s trailer and offers to handle it herself. When he decides to enter, she lets him do so privately while staying nearby.
The hydra battle uses distorted likenesses of familiar people and summoned caricatures. After the squad gains the key, Donut tells Carl that Beatrice knew about Asher but hid him, and had also used Carl’s account against a coworker. Both stories are new to him.[33]
The retreat, the rescue and Shi Maria
Quan engineers Donut’s hand to force her to Flee. She feels she has failed, although he deliberately created the situation. After regrouping, she stays with Carl to help the rescue instead of taking the stairs. Other squads arrive to assist.
Donut manages the remaining summons during the final card battle as the terrain collapses. Shi Maria takes control of Carl, burns their allies and badly injures Mongo. After surviving, Donut destroys Shi Maria’s card and releases Paz when he appears to ask her to. She leaves at level sixty-three.[34]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
Equipment and command
Deathbed Hellcat, the cloak and the charging pillows change Donut’s preparations for Faction Wars. Sponsors and license holders still make decisions involving her image and equipment without her control. Garret initially makes her fear being replaced, but she helps care for him.
Donut commands troops, uses Little Lies to protect Carl and appoints a personal guard. During assaults, she encourages her fighters, maintains shields and reminds Carl of their agreed timing. When his base stats make him party leader, she worries more about his emotional changes than about losing the title.[35]
From parley to the rescue of the crowd
Donut helps organize defenses and takes part in the warlord parley. When the AI asks for judgment, she warns about prisoners’ motives. Her public taunts hide a continuing fear that her friends will die.
At the Dream front, Donut cannot use the planned corpse attack from the required position. She uses an Atrocity spell to move a helpless crowd away from the divine fight and draws Harpocrates off with amplified insults and music. Li Jun dies saving her. Raul later helps her survive Lucia’s attack, and Rend saves Mongo when Gustavo nearly kills him.[36]
The chosen attack and the city’s departure
Carl tells Donut she can refuse the tattoo and final spell. She chooses to proceed while admitting her guilt over surviving and her wish for the fighting to stop. War Crime and Astral Paw gather enemies for Li Na’s chain lattice to kill. Carl holds Donut as the casting drains her toward one percent health.
Donut gains powerful abilities but grieves for the dead even while survivors thank her. She continues helping rescue Louis. Later, she eats the Ring of Divine Suffering when Carl gives it up. Donated skills become consumable pages in her Banquet Fit for a Princess. Evacuating the city allows the Posse to win without leaving its NPC population behind.
As the orchid ritual begins, Donut uses Laundry Day to eject Huanxin from Eileithyia. Wards prevent the exposed sponsor from escaping. With the Scorpion’s Bite mounting rig, Donut fires the Crossbow of the Scavenger Mother of Mothers and kills Huanxin using Mordecai’s bolt, made with his mother’s remains. Eileithyia survives, allowing Katia to choose pregnancy as her escape route. Mordecai thanks Donut before they descend.[37]

Book 8
A Parade of Horribles
Leaving Outreach and entering the race
Donut refuses an exit deal as soon as she knows Carl intends to continue. When Chandra uses legal filings to try to control their future earnings, Donut turns the public interview and her fan following against her. She threatens a bounty rather than physically attacking Chandra.
Donut chooses Assassin of Sekhmet and the mechanical vehicle category for the race. She must share driving duties, while the godslayer boon has permanently changed her claws. She also rejects using the Paramour biscuit to create a companion forced to love Prepotente, offering him her own friendship instead.[38]
Hazardous spells and demands for partnership
Donut’s upgraded Wall of Fire is far larger than Carl expects. Her vermin magic also summons Lucienne, the rival rodent racer, into a fatal encounter with the finish barrier. The spells can affect more than their intended targets.
Donut stops Carl’s reckless attack near Penelope, then distracts the Tigrans while he prepares a targeted trap. She challenges his secrecy and asks to be treated as his partner. Later, a physical interruption ruins the final line of her task-guild singing attempt.[39]
The false Linus, the racers and the shadow mimic
The Princess Posse helps expose the false Linus. Donut later kills Dwight using Smoke Form and a radiant claw, then kills the Russian racers with Astral Paw as they try to take the exit. She tells Elle that killing troubles her less than it once did, though she wishes it had not been necessary.
Donut’s goggles reveal a mismatch in magical flow. She confronts Mitch and exposes a hidden door, earning a special reward and an advance copy of Gatekeeper for later use.[40]
The parade, Emberus and the biscuit mistake
Carl leaving the party removes Donut’s queen title as well as his bodyguard title, but they express their love before the arena plan separates them. Donut trades places with Penelope, strips Emberus’s invulnerability with the Ophiotaurus bolt, pins him with a Danforth bolt and uses Puddle Jumper to escape with Carl. Taranis kills Emberus before his protection returns. Donut is injured by the blast because she lacks Carl’s temporary invulnerability.
Eris triggers the Scavenger’s Daughter to exchange Carl and Donut’s inventories. Donut picks the wrong biscuit from his unfamiliar supplies for the ball he plans to fire into Scolopendra. She admits her mistake after the boss becomes a speaking crawler instead of the ordinary pet Carl intended to contain. They keep their changed party arrangement as they prepare for the problems waiting on Twelve.[41]

Relationships
Carl
Donut remembers Carl caring for her before she could speak. After the biscuit, she chooses to stay with him and admits she needs him. She risks her life to save him and later fears that the crown will force them apart. Their closeness grows through conversations, shared rest and physical affection as much as fighting together.[42]
Donut confronts Carl when he tries to decide Katia’s choices for her. His suspicion about Donut’s discarded betrayal coupon also forces them to address trust between themselves. She wants him to discuss his concerns instead of overruling her judgment.[43]
Donut calls Carl her person during the confrontation with Beatrice, but continues to criticize him when he frightens her. She objects throughout Iota’s killing. After watching her fight Lucia, Carl apologizes, recognizing that she has had to make difficult decisions without him there.[44]
Donut stops Carl from endangering Penelope and later performs the crucial steps against Emberus. Before they separate for the arena, she acknowledges his fear about what his death would do to her and tells him she loves him. She also admits responsibility for choosing the wrong biscuit afterward.[45]
Beatrice
Beatrice owns and shows Donut before the Collapse. Donut initially thinks of her as an agent and imagines finding her again. Memories of their home and routines stay important even as she grows closer to Carl.[46]
Donut agrees to face Beatrice and reveals that she knew about the plan to give her away. She remembers being valued for ribbons, but still loves and misses her. She chooses not to return, grieving the relationship rather than simply forgetting it.[47]
Mongo
Donut insists on keeping Mongo and takes on feeding and protecting him. Their bond develops through hunting and rescues after she first chooses him. She now has someone depending on her to recognize dangers he cannot understand.[48]
Mordecai
Katia
Ferdinand
Donut recognizes Ferdinand as Gravy Boat, Marjory’s gray cat without a pedigree. She loved him before the dungeon and initially imagines reuniting with him, Carl and Beatrice.[55]
Donut recognizes Ferdinand among the enemy group and believes someone has altered his memories. She stays to face him, uses amplified charm and finally gives him a cat-specific potion that makes him her minion. Their reunion leaves him under her control.[56]
Zev and the Princess Posse
Donut has contacts beyond the party, including Zev and the Borant Emancipation Front, that Carl does not fully understand. She approves Princess Posse merchandise before he realizes how large the fan network has become. Those connections give her influence outside the dungeon, along with consequences she cannot always oversee.[58]
Miriam and Prepotente
Miriam gives Donut the spell needed to free Prepotente. Donut waits for the sunrise to end his healing lock, then casts it. She stays with him in his grief and promises to protect him from the creatures approaching.[59]
Donut refuses to use a Paramour biscuit to cure Prepotente’s loneliness. It would force a new companion to love him and put a level-one crawler in terrible danger. Instead, she offers to talk with him regularly.[60]
