Introduction
Quasar is the Null lawyer appointed after Carl asks for representation over the Gate of the Feral Gods. Abrasive and outspoken, he insists on privacy and his client’s independence. His negotiations become essential in a system where contracts can decide who survives, who owns the rewards and whether a crawler ever becomes free.[1]
Appearance and Personality
Quasar argues fiercely over procedure, privacy and professional ethics. Beneath the confrontational language, he identifies what the other side wants and looks for terms Carl can use. He takes instructions from his client rather than the sponsors.[1]
An attack on his family exposes the personal cost of his work. He secures a private call and sends a trusted colleague to help, then chooses to answer Carl’s summons so another lawyer will not replace him.[2]

Attributes and Abilities
At their first meeting, Quasar requests a private feed and explains that the system is paying for Carl’s unusually early representation. He keeps the client’s wishes separate from those of the people funding or running the crawl.
He turns the Gate dispute into a collateral negotiation. Recognizing that the factions want a particular spell used gives Carl leverage. The settlement restores useful mercenary support, though it creates further obligations.[1]
Quasar gets Borant to conditionally extend Vengeance of the Daughter through Floor Nine for an additional twenty-percent payment. He bluffs that Sensation has already agreed, with the remaining approval and signatures still to be secured.
He investigates a proposed 150-million-credit deal and how to protect Carl’s proceeds. He also warns that Zerzura will kill the transported residents and return them as revenants, while selling through the six mercenaries would end their contracts.[3]
Quasar demands notice of the sponsor interview and explains the liaison’s restrictions. When Odette’s adjutant appointment falls through, he recommends considering Victory’s legal experience despite her hostile family connections.
He defends Carl’s claim to intercepted loot while negotiating around the compulsory removal of communications hardware. Carl receives compensation and keeps permitted items, though the settlement does not restore unrestricted access.[4]
When his niece Tempest calls during the attack on her father, Quasar declares the conversation privileged and hires Kiki for one credit. The retainer lets his old law-school friend help the family while he continues representing Carl.[2]

History
Book 5
The Butcher’s Masquerade
Appointed in the Gate dispute
Carl’s request for counsel brings Quasar into the Gate negotiations. He asks for privacy, explains the exceptional early appointment and insists on independent representation.
Quasar negotiates collateral rather than accepting outright confiscation. The factions’ interest in a spell strengthens Carl’s position, and the agreement returns mercenary allies and tools that replace some of the Gate’s usefulness.[1]
Entertainment contracts and the proposed payoff
He seeks to extend Vengeance of the Daughter so its producers retain a financial reason to keep Carl alive. Borant conditionally agrees for an extra twenty percent after Quasar bluffs that Sensation has accepted. The other approval and signatures remain pending.
A separate 150-million-credit proposal leads him to examine its legal terms and protection for Carl’s money.[5]
The cost of moving Zerzura
A flashback reveals his warning about the town teleportation: its residents would die and return as revenants. A sale through the six mercenaries would also cancel their contracts. Carl proposes an alternative to protect the changelings.
With disputes suspended rather than settled, Quasar joins two Donut fans for a discussion in Orren’s presence as the coalition develops its plans.[6]

Book 6
The Eye of the Bedlam Bride
A useful compromise instead of everything Carl wants
He objects to an interview arranged without notifying counsel. Later he recommends Victory’s legal knowledge for the adjutant position, helping Carl assess her despite the political risks.
After Goff’s message is interrupted, Quasar argues that the intercepted loot belongs to Carl. Authorities insist on removing communications equipment, but he wins compensation and permission to retain other items. The Gate is not returned.[7]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
Contracts do not become simpler after victory
A Dream subsidiary’s acquisition threatens the entertainment arrangements he negotiated. During later questioning, Carl asks for Quasar, but Orren says he is unavailable.
At exit negotiations, Quasar calls the offers poor and hears Carl refuse them. He reveals Chandra’s claimed marriage and gives an initial briefing on the racing floor.[8]
Choose Book 7 or later above to read this part of the history.
Book 8
A Parade of Horribles
Chandra expands the conflict
Chandra files for control over Carl and Donut’s future earnings and hires Taurin assassins against Quasar.[9]
Exit negotiations during the wider breakdown
As crawlers reach Eleven, Quasar sees unusually generous offers of one season of indenture followed by substantial support. At that moment, 172 of 203 arrivals have accepted, with decisions still continuing.
He meets Kiki, a friend from law school, amid refugees and reports of strange manifestations. He separates the spreading panic from confirmed deaths.[2]
Tempest’s call
Tempest calls while assassins attack her father. They name Chandra as their employer. Tempest shoots them with the illegal blaster Quasar gave her; her father is still alive during the call.
Quasar makes the call privileged and hires Kiki to help his family physically and legally. He then answers Carl’s summons to prevent another lawyer replacing him. His family’s later condition and the marriage dispute remain unresolved.[2]

Relationships
Carl
Quasar treats Carl as his client, maintaining privacy and independence from the organizations running the crawl.[1]
He gives Carl leverage in entertainment contracts and financial negotiations, while warning about the obligations and dangers behind apparently attractive offers.[3]
Victory
Chandra
Princess Chandra is assigned as Donut’s lawyer and claims to be Carl’s wife. Her announcement creates a dispute over control of their money.[10]
Chandra’s attempt to control the clients’ finances escalates into an assassination contract that endangers Quasar’s family.[12]
His family and Kiki
Tempest is Quasar’s niece. She defends her father with a blaster Quasar gave her, and he retains Kiki to protect them and handle the legal aftermath.[2]
