The first nine chapters of Christopher Buehlman’s The Thrice-Bound Fool are now free to read on Reactor. The site added chapters seven through nine on October 5, bringing its preview of the Blacktongue Thief sequel up to three installments ahead of the book’s October 13 release.
The preview also includes audiobook excerpts read by Buehlman himself, so readers can return to Kinch Na Shannack’s story in print or hear the author’s narration before the full novel arrives.
Where to read The Thrice-Bound Fool’s free chapters
Reactor began the preview with chapters one through three on September 21. Chapters four through six followed on September 28, and chapters seven through nine are the latest addition.
Each installment has the chapter text on the page and an audio player above it. Start with the first batch if you have not tried the sample yet: these are consecutive chapters from the opening of the novel, rather than separate scenes chosen from throughout the book.
Reactor describes the excerpts as an extended preview running through October 13. Nine chapters are available as of October 6, so that is the amount readers can currently access across the three posts.
Kinch and Galva return
The Thrice-Bound Fool continues the story of The Blacktongue Thief. Kinch and Galva are traveling together again, this time with a stolen, sentient book that makes an already dangerous journey harder. Kinch needs to uncover its secrets, while the book itself is willing to kill him.
Galva has her own reason to keep him alive: the knowledge he is trying to uncover could help protect her queen. With the Takers Guild pursuing them, the pair must venture beyond familiar territory.
Buehlman also explored this world in The Daughters’ War, a prequel centered on Galva. The Thrice-Bound Fool moves Kinch’s story forward as the second Blacktongue novel. Readers who have not finished The Blacktongue Thief should save these samples for later, since a sequel’s opening can reveal where the previous book leaves its characters.
Tor Books publishes the full novel on October 13, 2026. The hardcover is available to preorder on Amazon.
