Equipment · Introduced in Book 4
Enchanted Anarchist’s Battle Rattle
The Enchanted Anarchist’s Battle Rattle is Carl’s sleeveless jacket. It improves his use of thrown explosives and carries the enchanted patches that become an important part of his equipment.[1]

A jacket designed to be customized
The jacket grants one point to the base stats and supports compatible patches. A compatible patch adds another point to the jacket’s general stat bonus as well as supplying its own enchantment; an eligible back patch doubles that general contribution. This makes placement and compatibility part of the equipment decision.
Patches are not a free, endlessly rearrangeable collection. Removing one destroys it. Carl therefore has to decide which improvements deserve permanent space rather than treating every new patch as something he can swap in and out without cost.[1]

Explosives and the Earth patch
The jacket increases the range and accuracy of thrown explosives by fifty percent. This directly supports Carl’s existing fighting style: a bomb is only useful if he can put it in the right place, and greater accuracy can matter as much as a larger blast.
The accompanying Earth patch offers five-percent Strength and immunity to cloud attacks when applied. Its benefits belong to the fitted patch, not automatically to an empty jacket. The first presentation includes supplies and plans for the build; it should not be read as proof that every discussed patch is already sewn into place.[1]

What later doubling does—and does not—mean
The Scavenger’s Daughter occupies the full back and doubles the jacket’s stat benefits, alongside its own substantial Strength and Dexterity bonuses and further abilities. The relevant promise concerns stats. It should not be expanded into an unsupported claim that every percentage, merchant discount, immunity or unrelated power on the jacket is doubled.
Divine proximity can also produce conditional effects through the patch. Such interactions depend on the nearby god and the specific situation; they are not permanent everyday values that can be added uncritically to Carl’s normal equipment sheet.[2]

History
Book 4
The Gate of the Feral Gods
A new base for Carl’s equipment
Carl gets it in a Spicy Box. Its explosive-throwing bonus helps immediately, and its patch spaces offer room for more benefits. The Earth patch could provide cloud immunity, but attaching patches is a commitment because removing them destroys them.[1]

Book 5
The Butcher’s Masquerade
The patch collection becomes practical
The later Revolutionary discussion confirms that the attached Earth patch already gives Carl cloud immunity. Donut’s knowledge of Scutelliphily and Katia’s sewing help develop the jacket as more patches arrive.
The flaming-arrow patch beside the Earth patch adds five Dexterity and five percent ranged-projectile damage. The medium bomb patch on the front adds eleven Constitution, six percent explosive damage, two levels of Dangerous Explosives Handling and a fifteen percent discount with Spider Reaper merchants. These bonuses come from the individual patches alongside the jacket’s general benefits.[3]

Book 6
The Eye of the Bedlam Bride
Peace Patch and the Scavenger’s Daughter
The Peace Patch adds ten Dexterity, reduces aggression from neutral monsters and improves bongo proficiency by ten percent. Carl then fills the back with the Scavenger’s Daughter.
The divine patch doubles the jacket’s stat benefits, making the earlier additions more valuable. It also brings its own powers and divine risks, which become a major part of Carl’s story.[2]
