Crafting station · Introduced in Book 1
Sapper’s Table
The Sapper’s Table is Carl’s portable workstation for traps and explosives. It prevents premature activation while he is crafting, making dangerous devices safer to assemble.[1]

Safety during construction
The table’s protection applies to making explosives and traps. It gives Carl a controlled place to assemble dangerous components rather than relying entirely on steady hands and luck. That is especially valuable for a crawler whose strongest ideas often involve combining materials in ways their original owners did not intend.
The protection is not a statement that finished bombs cannot hurt him. Carrying, placing and detonating a device remain separate stages with their own risks. The table also does not supply unlimited materials or make every imaginable explosive recipe feasible.[1]

Triggers and a finished device
The same Gold Sapper’s Box supplies ten Proximity Triggers. These let Carl define conditions for activation, making them particularly valuable alongside a station dedicated to trap construction. The triggers are separate components; the table is the workplace in which he can use them.
Keeping that distinction clear explains why a new trigger or detonator can improve Carl’s options without replacing the table. The workstation supports construction, while the fitted components and relevant abilities determine what a finished device does in the field.[1]

Later skills and remote operation
Remote Detonator belongs to the abilities supplied through Carl’s kerchief. Its interaction with explosives he designs using the table expands how he can activate his work, but remote detonation is not the table’s original built-in feature. The combination depends on Carl possessing the relevant ability as well as a suitable device.[2]

A workstation is not a simulator
Agent Provocateur adds a skill-level benefit while Carl uses the Sapper’s Table. The Advanced Bomber’s Studio then adds a different kind of support: large-bomb engineering and virtual testing. A high-level ordinary table can compare with the studio’s basic workbench, but that does not give every Sapper’s Table the studio’s simulation environment.
The table also provides a way to program a recovered Summoning Trap’s chosen guards or minions. Without that programming, selection is random; without the necessary minions or town authority, the trap can misfire. The workstation helps configure a valid resource rather than conjuring a force the owner does not possess.[3]

History
Book 1
Dungeon Crawler Carl
A practical reward for trap-making
The You Call That a Trap? achievement earns Carl a Gold Sapper’s Box containing the table and ten Proximity Triggers. He especially values the triggers for letting him control when a trap activates. He receives the table long before his later workshops and simulation rooms.[1]

Book 4
The Gate of the Feral Gods
Combining construction with a new activation method
Remote Detonator later lets Carl trigger explosives he has appropriately designed at the table. Remote control comes from that added ability, rather than being a feature he had from the start.[2]

Book 5
The Butcher’s Masquerade
A stronger build and a separate test environment
Agent Provocateur rewards Carl’s work at the table, while the Advanced Bomber’s Studio lets him test explosives in simulation. The studio can examine something as dangerous as the Doomsday Scenario without spending the real item. The table remains his tool for building devices.[4]
Programming a recovered Summoning Trap
While disarming alarms and training Find Traps, Carl recovers a single-use Summoning Trap. After two seconds, it can call two guards or minions. A Sapper’s Table can program which ones arrive. Carl sees a use for it now that the party has authority over a town, though he does not deploy it in that scene.[5]
