This guide follows the first eight Pineapple Cabaret installments in their printed order. Their events do not always occur at the same point in the main story as the books containing them.
Choose how far you have read in both the main novels and the bonus stories. An installment opens only when both settings allow it. Opening a part does not change your saved reading progress.

Part 1: Rory
Included with Book 1. Story time: after the first-floor goblin–llama conflict.
What happens
Rory treasures the name Donut gave her and persuades Lorelai to name other goblins. Once the interface recognizes Rory by name, an administrator sends a team to expel them. She overhears its soldiers identifying Carl and Donut as the killers of the goblin children, whose deaths she had blamed on the llamas.
Rory prepares a Murder Dozer barricade and uses Revenge to turn the team’s explosion against it. As the dungeon begins cleansing the workshop, an unsigned message offers escape. Transport carries the survivors to Backstage.
What changes
Rory gains a name and a new sense of herself, only to learn who killed her people. Her grief and anger follow her into the refuge.
Open question

Part 2: Grandma Llama
Included with Book 2. Story time: more than two weeks Backstage; Floor Three has ended.
What happens
Grandma keeps the surviving llamas from attacking the goblins. Memories return of a yellow temple, her husband and earlier lives. Rory’s questions about names help other leaders break through their suppressed memories too.
Menerva, a female elf, appoints the chosen creatures as generals and asks them to build and train for Floor Seventeen. She says the AI saved them from recycling and promises a permanent home in the Pineapple Cabaret once the work is done.
What changes
Backstage is their workplace; the Cabaret is the home Menerva promises afterward. Grandma notices contradictions in her remembered family history and doubts that promise.
Open question
Can they trust Menerva’s offer, and which of Grandma’s memories belong to a life she actually lived?

Included with Book 3. Story time: after Floor Four's collapse; maze construction is underway.
What happens
Growler Gary arrives grieving for Jumping Jen-Jen. Rory shows him the growing maze and introduces him to Menerva, who helps him separate implanted memories from experiences he lived.
Gary’s resurrection comes from an exceptional key binding created by an administrator. With Floor Four gone, the key is free-floating and should restore him wherever he dies. Grandma offers him creation tools and the chance to make another gnoll, persuading him to help.
What changes
Gary hopes the tools can bring Jen-Jen back. Whether a creature that looks like her would truly be the person he lost remains uncertain.
Open question
Can Gary recover Jen-Jen, and why does Menerva avoid his question about the Iron Tangle?

What happens
Cock-A-Doodle-Doo builds a pet-shop trap while caring for Nibbles and Buttercup, as their owner Tillie asked him to do. The three Earth hamsters reached Backstage after a canceled summons. Doodle’s intelligence and retained memories make him valuable to the builders.
Troubled by Gary’s repeated deaths and rejected Jen-Jen creations, Doodle spies on Grandma’s faction. He hears a plan for Willow Joy to replace Jen-Jen, win Gary’s loyalty and help move against Menerva. Willow catches him listening.
What changes
Grandma is turning her suspicions into a plot against Menerva. Doodle investigates because he wants to keep the other hamsters safe.
Open question
Can Doodle warn anyone, and what becomes of Gary’s rejected creations?

Part 5: Willow Joy
Included with Book 5. Story time: weeks after Doodle's disappearance, with a flashback to Willow's escape from Floor Eighteen after the Valtay takeover.
What happens
Willow Joy is a changeling who escaped service at Club Scolopendra after her patrons abandoned her. At Backstage she poses as Spaghetti and befriends Gary, eventually coming to care for him.
She attempts Grandma’s plan by putting Gary and the apparent Jen-Jen to sleep, intending to remove Jen-Jen and replace her. The gnoll reveals itself as a shadow mimic. Another mimic, wearing Larry’s body, kills Tea Bag. The Jen-Jen mimic copies Willow’s orc appearance and voice as others close in, leaving the real Willow badly injured.
What changes
Gary created the Jen-Jen mimics himself, but the mimic says he knew nothing of their plans. Willow’s attempt to replace one exposes a much larger infiltration.
Open question
Does Willow survive, and how many familiar faces now belong to mimics?

Part 6: Jelly Bun
Included with Book 6. Story time: many crawlers have reached Floor Nine; the maze is functional.
What happens
Jelly Bun, the Drek Rory calls Juju, has become more aware than her keepers realize. She detects thirty scentless mimics among 150 gathered creatures. Unable to warn Rory in words, she fears that attacking would trigger a massacre.
Menerva opens the moving doorway for Rory’s second glimpse of the Cabaret. Jelly Bun slips through and is pulled farther inside, drawing Rory after her on the leash. Doodle appears and tries to escape, but the portal closes. As ogres approach, an unidentified voice warns Jelly Bun that old gods use the Cabaret to travel between worlds.
What changes
Rory reaches the long-promised refuge and finds it dangerous. The warning offers a possible explanation, though Jelly Bun does not know who is speaking.
Open question
What pulled Jelly Bun through, and can she, Rory and Doodle get back?

Part 7: Larry
Included with Book 7. Story time: visitors fleeing Floor Eighteen activate the completed maze.
What happens
The current Larry is a shadow mimic that killed and replaced the original rat-kin. Copying a creature can change its attributes and natural form without granting every learned ability. The mimics want Gary’s resurrection but have not acquired it.
An emergency activates the maze against fleeing resort guests. Menerva reveals that she and Herot escaped a library and built the Cabaret. Herot is trapped there with an intruder from outside the dungeon, and she leaves to rescue him.
Larry bites Epitome Noflex, a powerful Dream visitor displayed as level one, and takes her form. He proposes feeding on the wealthy resort guests.
What changes
The guests give the mimics access to new forms. Noflex expects death to return her to her room, while Larry sees an opportunity to expand beyond the builders.
Open question
Can Menerva reach Herot, and how far will the mimics spread?

Part 8: Nigel
Included with Book 8. Story time: two days after the resort visitors arrive; the second Scolopendra attack and canceled third align with late Book Eight.
What happens
Nigel leaves hiding after remembering his own advice to Next about abandoning people out of fear. He finds Grandma, Gary, the hamsters, a few fairies and three goblins alive. The mimics have killed others and disabled the maze’s controls.
A damaged robot told Grandma that Rory fell into the Cabaret. Without a death notice, she believes Rory can still be rescued. Grandma will stay to reopen the moving portal while Gary, Next and Nigel go after her. Nigel plans to tag Grandma so he can sense the return opening, though he has never tested the spell this way.
What changes
The survivors have a rescue plan and need Rory’s authority to restore the floor. They have yet to leave Backstage.
Open question
Will they find Rory, and will Nigel’s Tag lead them home?

Details to keep in mind
The Lorelai mimic says it ate Next in Part Seven (PDF p. 4), but Next appears alive and joins the planned rescue in Part Eight (PDF pp. 7, 10–11). These installments leave the discrepancy unexplained.
The number of Jen-Jen creations varies between speakers. Grandma’s faction mentions a sixth in Part Four, Willow estimates a fifth in Part Five, and the Part Seven mimic identifies itself as creation twelve.
The bonus stories depict Menerva as a female elf. Her partnership with Herot becomes explicit when she explains how they built the Cabaret.
Part Five names Eris’s sponsor Nami, while Victory calls her Tami in This Inevitable Ruin, Chapter 69. The spelling differs between the accounts.
The original Larry and Lorelai are separate from the mimics wearing their forms, as are Noflex and her copy. The unidentified voice and the outcome of the planned rescue remain unresolved through Part Eight.
