Safe Rooms, Guilds and Services
Safe rooms give crawlers a place to sleep, eat and prepare for their next trip into the dungeon. Personal spaces can grow into shared homes with workshops, training rooms and stables. Guilds and clubs offer other services, but their rules and protections vary.[1]

Time still passes
The floor’s collapse timer keeps running while a crawler is inside a tutorial room or safe room.[1]

Facilities vary
Some shelters provide attendants, food and other services. Others have little more than beds and showers.[1]

Protection has conditions
The system punishes attacks inside protected rooms. That does not always keep dangerous creatures out: some can enter as long as they do not attack.[1]

History
Book 1
Dungeon Crawler Carl
Tutorial guilds provide the first refuge
Carl’s first apparent guild entrance is a trap. He eventually reaches Mordecai’s official tutorial guild, where he can learn about the dungeon in safety. Getting inside is not always immediate, especially with enemies in pursuit, and the floor’s countdown continues while he is there.
After Carl and Donut register with Mordecai, other tutorial doors take them back to his room. Tutorial access ends when they reach the fourth floor. Mordecai explains that his room then moves deeper into the dungeon, where he often runs a magic guild offering spells and training to qualified crawlers.[2]
Safe-room defenses
The first shelters Carl visits vary widely. A restaurant provides staff and rooms, while another refuge has only cots and showers. He also finds that separate restroom doors can lead into the same room.
Attacking inside a protected room brings escalating punishments. Creatures that do not attack can sometimes enter, as Carl discovers with a group of grubs. He later provokes an elemental into attacking so the system will throw it out.[3]
Personal Spaces and club membership
Tally, a safe-room attendant, introduces Carl to personal spaces: rooms that stay with their owners as they descend and can be expanded with new facilities. Crawlers can normally buy one from the fourth floor onward.
Carl and Donut receive permanent marks granting them entry to the Desperado Club. Accepting a mark prevents them from obtaining an ordinary Vanquisher Pass. These are club memberships, separate from personal spaces.[4]

Book 2
Carl’s Doomsday Scenario
Mordecai becomes Donut’s manager
Donut’s Former Child Actor class allows her to choose a manager. She picks Mordecai, who is then moved between safe rooms with her. The change costs him the independence, equipment and information access he had as a tutorial guide. He can still advise the party and investigate on their behalf, but cannot fight for them.
Mordecai explains that reaching the fourth floor will fulfill his contractual obligation. He will remain Donut’s manager for the rest of the season, earn additional compensation and then go free. From the fourth floor onward, a fatal injury will remove him from the dungeon rather than kill him. He can still be hurt, and on the third floor his life remains at risk.[5]
Services inside the Desperado Club
Entrances to the Desperado Club in different towns all lead to the same interior. It contains shops, training guilds, employment services and a casino. Visitors must leave through the exit for their original town, so the shared club cannot normally be used as a shortcut across the floor.
Bouncers guard the Desperado’s main room, but some side rooms lack that protection. Carl can shop, hire help and consult specialists there, yet the club does not have the same automatic safeguards as a safe room.[6]

Book 3
The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook
Three rooms become one working home
Carl, Donut and Katia use their room coupons to combine three level-three rooms into a level-five communal space. They share facilities while retaining their individual environment upgrades. Mordecai explains that a member leaving voluntarily would lower the room’s level. Katia’s death would instead break up their current arrangement and remove her upgrades.
Beds help the party recover, while upgrades provide space and equipment for longer projects. Mordecai gains private quarters attached to the room. While he is inside them, Donut can visit other safe rooms without dragging him along. Crafting still requires the right workbench and facilities.
The ordinary training room allows one hour of practice per day in a single nonmagical skill. Explosives cannot be trained there. Guests also need the appropriate party permissions to enter private rooms, even when several rooms share a vestibule.[7]

Book 4
The Gate of the Feral Gods
Occupants and events affect protection
Mordecai explains that a crawler, or certain staff members from outside the dungeon or previous crawls, can keep a safe room’s protection active. Borant-owned NPCs generally cannot do so alone. Special events may block access altogether. Carl can shelter rescued NPCs in his personal space, but bringing them inside does not free them from the fifth floor’s quadrant restrictions.
The entrance to a personal space can survive the destruction of the building around it. Inside, some effects still work: nonexplosive magical smoke can be released, for example. Explosives are stabilized on a suitable crafting bench, but lose that protection when taken off it for use.[8]
The Marketplace adds trade to the room’s services
The Marketplace lets crawlers buy and sell through an interface, with auctions promised as a later addition. Donut’s Charisma helps her get better prices. Private sales must charge at least half an item’s listed value, limiting the use of cheap sales to pass valuables between crawlers. Carl also learns from the Cookbook that appraising an unusual item can reveal information he would rather keep hidden.
The kitchen synthesizer makes meals that give crawlers temporary benefits. Mongo cannot eat its food.[9]

Book 5
The Butcher’s Masquerade
Social guilds connect personal spaces
Guild charters let crawlers connect their personal spaces. A basic charter starts at 500,000 gold and initially supports up to five parties or individuals. Members can pay to combine facilities or redistribute unspent experience. The guildmaster manages shared facilities and the treasury, while personal rooms remain private.
Team Meadowlark buys Safehome Yolanda and makes Imani its guildmaster. By the time Carl’s group joins, the guild is level seventeen and includes six parties and 63 crawlers, with common rooms and stables for the larger group. The book does not explain which upgrade expanded it beyond the charter’s initial capacity.[10]
Specialist guilds and training
The Guild of Suffering is an organization connected to demigods, with a spiderweb membership mark. It does not serve the same purpose as a charter connecting crawlers’ homes.
At CrawlCon, Carl gains temporary access to an Ultimate Training Room. He can spend up to six hours a day training as many as six skills, including ones his ordinary room cannot accommodate. He keeps the knowledge he gains, but anything he makes must remain inside. That lets him practice building bombs without taking the finished explosives with him.[11]
Guests and hired residents
Carl shelters Edict, a mantis merchant fleeing the hunter Vrah. Mordecai warns him that Edict cannot be restrained or made an employee and is free to report what he sees. Vrah enters on a one-time invitation and attacks Edict. The system strips her and teleports her away; she is not shown being killed.
Lucia places a transport trap outside a tavern and uses it to pull victims from the protected area inside. Mordecai later explains that Carl’s personal space has different limits. The protection offered by a tavern cannot be assumed to work exactly like the protection on a private room.[12]

Book 6
The Eye of the Bedlam Bride
Practice battles
The G’hee Practice Arena creates opponents for crawlers to test their cards and monsters against. Those opponents cannot directly injure the users, but environmental dangers and self-inflicted wounds still count. Used consumables are spent, and abilities keep their long cooldowns after a session.
The party uses the arena to test plans and find weaknesses before a real fight. The apparent Earth residents it generates are simulations rather than people the party has rescued. Prices vary between sessions.[13]
Religious access and the Desperado disaster change available services
Pater Coal escorts Carl into Club Vanquisher because he worships Emberus. This gives him a way in despite the normal restriction on Desperado members, though it is not unrestricted membership in both clubs.
Katia accepts a secret Guild of Suffering contract to kill Astrid, the Desperado Club’s assistant manager. The reward is an orchid that may save her from the deadly conflict between her crown and Donut’s. Revealing the contract would cancel it, and she must deliver Astrid’s body to collect. During a demon attack on the club, Carl helps Katia fight Astrid. Katia kills her and turns in the corpse, earning the orchid, although she has not yet used it.
The attack leaves the club’s staff and performers without their former workplace. With permission from their manager Rosemarie, Carl hires eleven Meat Shields performers, a skeletal DJ and a crocodilian assistant for two floors. He pays with gold and Donut’s coupon. Employing them requires a Mercenary Arcade and enough accommodation space.[14]
Doggie Doors reconnect allies on the same floor
The team can only employ as many mercenaries as it can house. Carl asks allies to add affordable accommodation. Expanding twenty places to one hundred would cost almost five million gold, an option they discuss without completing the purchase.
Lucia’s Tier Three Doggie Door modules let crawlers leave through previously used exits on the same floor, provided they have the necessary shared access. Imani installs one and uses it to bring allies to Cuba. Mordecai says this upgrade would normally appear on the ninth floor, so obtaining it early gives them a valuable rescue route on the eighth.[15]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
War limits refuge and exposes shared routes
The Desperado reopens under a new owner who welcomes NPCs but excludes crawlers. During Faction Wars, returning veteran crawlers also face limits on how long they can shelter in safe rooms. They cannot wait out the conflict inside.
Capturing the bait shop gives the guild a useful exit. When enemies reach the same location outside, that exit becomes dangerous, and Carl’s allies plan to close it. The threat is at the shared destination, rather than an enemy entering through the Posse’s private guild room.[16]

Book 8
A Parade of Horribles
Performance earns individual guild access
After several failed karaoke attempts, Carl and Donut try Take On Me together. Donut’s final note is interrupted, so only Carl qualifies. He gains permanent access to the Stage Performance Guild and an ability that reveals nearby hidden guild entrances.
Donut and Jurgen do not gain membership with him. Inside, Guildmaster Porky offers Carl training. Carl also frees tissue trapped in Porky’s body-containment suit, earning levels in Razzmatazz as a reward.[17]
Private conversations in shared rooms
Rosetta tells the group that a bug in advanced pet stables prevents gods from observing what is happening inside at that moment. They use the stables for a discussion without an immediate divine response. Lasting changes may still be noticed afterward, so the protection has limits.
After Carl leaves Donut’s party, Imani connects his separate personal room to Safehome Yolanda. He remains in his own party, and most of their crafting facilities stay with Donut. Being part of the same guild lets them share access without sharing a party.[18]
