History
Book 4
The Gate of the Feral Gods
Carl gives the mushrooms to Mordecai and receives Toraline from his pacifist sponsor. Mordecai thinks the root may have healing uses because of its similarities to other ingredients, but has not confirmed a recipe.
Henrik later says that repeatedly feeding Wynne the mushrooms helped him coerce her. He does not fully explain how their effect worked.[2]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
Rosetta asks for Carl’s remaining Toraline. Katia later uses ink made with the root and Carl’s blood to transfer his separately trained Tripper to Imani. Her new tattoo begins at level one and needs use to stabilize. Carl loses six levels for four days.
Edgar explains that Toraline ink can temporarily share abilities from a willing owner or permanently take them from an unwilling one. Milk’s newer ink works differently. The Mairmei mushrooms are not used in this transfer.[3]
