Iron Tangle engineer keys
Engineer keys let crawlers operate compatible trains and pass through certain Iron Tangle portals. The key must be held or equipped; leaving it in inventory will not satisfy the access check.[1]

Matching a key to a route
Each key opens a particular set of routes. Carl’s Ochre key serves that line, while the Steam Engineer’s Key works with four hundred steam trains. Some portals also require a suitable vehicle, so a key alone may not let someone walk through.[2]

The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook
Carl collects keys as he explores the railway, and Katia acquires a Vermillion key. Other crawlers later donate keys, giving the rescue teams access to more routes.[3]
