HBO has revealed three major new cast members for Harry Potter Season 2, including Dobby, Tom Riddle and a new Ginny Weasley.
According to Variety’s announcement, Lenny Rush will play Dobby, Billy Barratt will play Tom Riddle, and Bonnie Hill will take over the role of Ginny Weasley when the series moves into its adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
They join another major Season 2 addition that was announced last month: Game of Thrones star Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart.
With four major Chamber of Secrets characters now cast, HBO is already putting much of its second-season cast together months before Season 1 even premieres.
Lenny Rush Will Play Dobby
Dobby, one of the most important new characters introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, will be played by Lenny Rush.
Rush has appeared in Am I Being Unreasonable?, Enola Holmes 2 and Dodger, among other projects. He has also received multiple BAFTA nominations for his television work.
Dobby plays a major role throughout Chamber of Secrets, beginning with his attempts to stop Harry from returning to Hogwarts because he knows something dangerous is coming.
Billy Barratt Has Been Cast as Tom Riddle
Billy Barratt will play the teenage Tom Riddle, giving us our first confirmed actor for a version of Lord Voldemort in HBO’s new adaptation.
Barratt appeared in the A24 horror film Bring Her Back and Apple TV’s Invasion. He also became the youngest winner of an International Emmy for Best Actor for his performance in Responsible Child.
HBO has not yet announced who will eventually play the adult Voldemort, so Barratt’s casting doesn’t necessarily tell us who will take over the role later in the series.
Bonnie Hill Is the New Ginny Weasley
The biggest surprise from today’s announcement may be Bonnie Hill taking over as Ginny Weasley.
Gracie Cochrane plays Ginny in Season 1, but it was previously announced that she would leave the series after the first season due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
That means Hill will become Ginny beginning with Chamber of Secrets.
Hill has previously appeared in The Six Triple Eight and Film Club, as well as Girl Troop versus Aliens.
It’s an especially significant recast because Ginny goes from being a relatively minor character in Philosopher’s Stone to one of the most important characters in the entire Chamber of Secrets story.
Harry Potter Season 2 Is Already Moving Quickly
Season 2 will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and is expected to begin filming this fall.
Season 1 of Harry Potter premieres December 25, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max, with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
There are still some notable Chamber of Secrets roles left to announce, including Arthur Weasley, but with Dobby, Tom Riddle, Ginny Weasley and Gilderoy Lockhart now in place, much of the second season is already starting to take shape.
