Midnight Epicure patch
The Midnight Epicure patch protects Carl from vampirism and lycanthropy. It also increases his magical damage against sapient undead by twenty-five percent.[1]

The Butcher’s Masquerade
Carl receives it alongside Donut’s matching Ab-solar bracelet. Mordecai suspects the gifts are meant to encourage them to kill Miriam. Carl has the patch sewn on for protection before trying to save her, refusing to treat her as an enemy.[2]

Book 8
A Parade of Horribles
Carl and Donut later connect the name Epicure with Prepotente’s religion. He explains its myth of an apocalypse that renews the world through consumption, and how the caprids have reinterpreted it. Carl still wears the patch when he adds the Four-Leaf Clover above it.[3]
