Pierce Brown has given Red Rising fans plenty to watch over the past two weeks: a new podcast interview, fresh Instagram clips, and updates around his upcoming UK appearances. Now, a reported change to his Instagram bio has readers wondering whether that activity is building toward news about Red God.
The speculation picked up in a September 15 discussion on r/redrising, where readers connected the supposed bio change with Brown’s appearance on Wildmen and a livestream of his October London event. Some are hoping for a release date before the end of the year. Others think the book itself could still be a year or more away.
As of September 20, none of those clues amounts to a confirmed announcement date. But they do explain why readers are watching Brown’s next appearance so closely.
Red God is the planned seventh and final main novel. Brown discussed its 2022 announcement and status as the finale with Barnes & Noble, so the hoped-for news would be a publication date, cover reveal, or substantial progress update. Our Red Rising reading guide covers where it fits alongside the six published novels and the series’ side stories.
The Instagram clue comes with a catch
The September 15 Reddit post claimed that Brown had removed the reference to Book 7 from his Instagram bio. The same poster later edited the thread to say the wording had returned, accompanied by a hat emoji.
Pierce Brown’s Instagram bio now reads “Brb w/ book 7 👒,” fueling speculation that a Red God announcement could be approaching. Combined with his recent interview and upcoming appearances, it gives fans reasons to watch closely, although the wording’s first appearance and any announcement timetable remain unconfirmed.

The recent posts themselves are easier to pin down. On September 10, Del Rey shared Brown reading the opening page of Red Rising. On September 17, Wildmen shared an interview clip with Brown, one of the podcast posts appearing on his profile.
What the new interview actually tells us
The clearest new source is Brown’s appearance on Wildmen with Dylan Sprouse and Brendan Columbus, released on September 15.
At about 13 minutes into the interview, Brown says the book he is working on exceeds 200,000 words. Later, while discussing his habit of drawing character names from a hat to make certain story decisions, he says a choice for Red God had interrupted his writing process for a while. Neither passage supplies a publication date or promises an upcoming reveal.
The episode has generated its own second wave of attention. The description of 2 To Ramble’s recent “Red God NEWS!” video points back to Wildmen. Those reactions help explain the sense that Red God is suddenly everywhere, even when the discussion traces back to the same conversation.
Why fans are watching the October tour
The other concrete focus is Brown’s UK visit. A September 15 Reddit thread about additional tickets and a livestream quickly turned to the possibility of a Red God release-date announcement.
There are real events behind that hope. Topping & Company’s October 19 York event has moved to the Grand Opera House because of demand. Waterstones is offering a livestream of Brown’s October 21 conversation with John Gwynne in London.
Neither listing advertises a Red God reveal. Both identify the relevant signed-book offering as a new hardcover edition of Red Rising. The London listing promises a conversation about the series and an opportunity to submit questions, which is a good reason to expect discussion of Brown’s work.
How long has the wait actually been?
Part of the uncertainty comes from Brown’s earlier estimate. In an interview released February 3, 2025, he suggested 2026, most likely summer, while stressing that the book needed to feel right. In the March 2026 clarification, he explicitly ruled out that summer and explained that revisions, editing, and printing would still take time. The earlier window was a hope, rather than a fixed publication commitment.
The series has also never maintained a consistent release interval. These are the original US hardcover dates, with approximate gaps calculated between books:
| Novel | Original US publication | Gap from previous novel |
|---|---|---|
| Red Rising | January 28, 2014 | First novel |
| Golden Son | January 6, 2015 | 11 months |
| Morning Star | February 9, 2016 | 13 months |
| Iron Gold | January 16, 2018 | 23 months |
| Dark Age | July 30, 2019 | 18 months |
| Light Bringer | July 25, 2023 | Almost four years |
By September 20, the wait since Light Bringer is about three years and two months, still shorter than the gap between Dark Age and Light Bringer. That history gives the wait some perspective, but it cannot produce a reliable Red God release date.
For now, the new interview and October appearances give readers something concrete to follow. The strongest next signal would be Brown or his publisher attaching a date to Red God itself. Until then, the excitement around a possible announcement is understandable, while the timing remains open.
