The War for Roshar Kickstarter launches on October 13, 2026, bringing Brotherwise Games’ Stormlight Archive strategy game and new Cosmere miniatures to the same campaign. Fans interested in the miniatures will be able to buy them as add-ons without purchasing the board game.
Brotherwise’s latest update, posted September 29, revealed the box artwork by Jason Rainville. It follows an earlier preview of the campaign’s miniature sets, including the first Mistborn Premium Miniatures. With the launch two weeks away, the publisher has now outlined both the game and the separate collections backers can choose from.
How War for Roshar plays
Designed by John D Clair, Stormlight: War for Roshar puts the Coalition of Honor against Odium’s forces. The official campaign page describes an asymmetric strategy game in the tradition of War of the Ring and Star Wars: Rebellion, with armies, alliances and character abilities all shaping the conflict.
Each side begins with two leaders who determine its starting deck. Players then gain cards that unlock armies, allies and Surgebinding powers. The announced leaders include Dalinar, Kaladin, Raboniel and Taravangian, while Brotherwise’s September 23 character preview also confirmed Shallan and Nale.
Brotherwise’s July announcement described eight rounds, with play available one-on-one, three-against-one or in teams of two. Players fight for Oathgates and pursue secondary objectives while upgrading leaders, deploying troops and persuading neutral nations to join them.
Dragonsteel’s August report from a Gen Con demo showed how the storms affect that struggle. Highstorms and the Everstorm replenish resources and refresh the opposing forces, while Radiant oaths unlock new abilities as the game progresses. Dragonsteel also warns that the game contains Stormlight Archive spoilers.
Mistborn and Stormlight miniatures are separate add-ons
The September 16 miniature preview confirmed a Mistborn Premium Miniatures set featuring 16 characters from Eras One and Two, with Vin and Kelsier among the first models shown. Brotherwise gave Kelsier another spotlight on September 30.
The same campaign will offer a seven-figure Wind and Truth pack, a Stormlight Adventure Set with creatures, adversaries and NPCs for RPG play, and a Gargantuan Thunderclast.
These are optional miniatures for RPG players and collectors. Brotherwise has clarified that they are separate from War for Roshar’s own components. The board game uses silver and gold leader miniatures alongside flat pieces for armies and champions.
Backers who only want the add-ons can make a minimum $1 pledge, then pay for the miniatures they choose.
What happens after the October launch?
Brotherwise previously announced a base game, a Champions mini-expansion and deluxe component upgrades. Its July release put fulfillment in 2027, followed by a planned retail release around that year’s holiday season
