History
Book 1
Dungeon Crawler Carl
A prize with immediate power and a distant condition
Donut finds it in the Legendary Quadruped Box awarded for being the first cat into the dungeon. Mordecai warns her about dangerous rewards, but she equips it through her quadruped interface. Carl can inspect the equipped tiara without seeing her private inventory. It gives five Intelligence, five Good First Impression and a fifteen-percent chance for attacks, including spells, to inflict Sepsis.
Its price is royal-succession status. Donut must kill the Sultan and every other royal claimant before taking the stairs from Floor Nine to Floor Ten. Taking it off will not cancel that status. The crown is Fleeting and Unique, with an unexplained asterisk after Unique. Mordecai says removing a Fleeting crown destroys it and makes an equivalent appear elsewhere, potentially creating another claimant.[1]
Sepsis appears in combat; the succession worry remains
The Bad Llama’s separate Sepsis description says the effect deals damage over time, does not stack and can be cured with simple healing. Later, Donut inflicts Sepsis on Scatterers. Some stop fighting, flee and die after roughly thirty steps, making the crown useful long before its succession condition becomes urgent.
Donut asks Carl about Mordecai’s suggestion that he might leave her before the crown contest. Carl puts off the question. Neither has found a way around the condition, and no rival crowned crawler has been identified yet.[2]

Book 2
Carl’s Doomsday Scenario
Donut sacrifices her crown, but keeps its burden
During the Remex emergency, pulses threaten equipped magical items and Mordecai tells the party to put their gear away. Donut hesitates because destroying her Fleeting crown could send a replacement to someone who would become her rival. The immediate danger finally forces her to remove it.
The tiara disintegrates. Donut loses its five Intelligence and Sepsis effect, while the original description also tied Good First Impression to wearing it. The succession obligation remains. No replacement crown or new holder is shown at that point.[3]

Book 5
The Butcher’s Masquerade
The rule still shadows Donut on later floors
After Mongo briefly disappears, Donut’s fear of abandonment brings the crown problem back into focus. Carl remembers that she still has to eliminate the Sultana and the other claimants. He promises not to leave her, though that promise does not change the rule.
Nihit’s family connection to the Blood Sultanate later makes Carl worry that its royals may be protected while ordinary soldiers die in Faction Wars. He still believes Donut is the only crawler to have worn a crown. He does not yet know what happened to Katia.[4]
Eva forces a separate crown onto Katia
Katia’s retrospective viewpoint reveals Eva’s last trap. As she dies, Eva pulls out a hidden crown and puts it on Katia. It equips immediately and sinks into her form. A protective hat offered by a sponsor or the beanie Carl showed her could have stopped it, but she is wearing neither. This is a different physical crown from Donut’s destroyed tiara.
The rule now puts Katia and Donut in competition: only one can take the stairs from Floor Nine to Floor Ten. Carl and Donut do not yet know. The scene does not explain where Eva got the crown or whether she ever wore it herself.[5]

Book 6
The Eye of the Bedlam Bride
Carl and Donut learn what Katia is wearing
Katia tells Carl about the crown and urges him toward Yemaya’s shrine, believing it offers a way to save them. Later she shows Donut the purple crown and explains Eva’s attack. Donut recognizes the cruel confrontation the show is trying to arrange. Katia refuses to fight her and offers to die first, while Carl and Mordecai insist on looking for another answer.
Katia produces a locked box containing an orchid connected to Eileithyia. It may provide a different exit, rather than removing the crown. Donut’s original crown is gone and Katia’s is still attached, but both face the same stair restriction.[6]
Three proposed exits and an interested sponsor
The orchid offers three possibilities. A Constitution increase would leave Katia in the normal floor sequence. Becoming a Celestial Attendant would move her to Floor Twelve as a temporary noncombatant. Pregnancy would disqualify her under child-protection rules and send her to a surface Kinder Facility. She initially favors the attendant option despite its risks. None is described as erasing the original succession condition.
Huanxin Jinx promises to help Katia as part of her coercive bargain with Carl. Odette later claims Huanxin does not truly intend to save her. Katia obtains the orchid by completing the Guild of Suffering contract but waits until Floor Nine to use it. The group continues looking for a plan that does not depend on trusting Huanxin.[7]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
Operation Snake Pit identifies four remaining succession targets
Operation Snake Pit identifies four royal targets: Sultana Vinata, her two female cousins who serve as Ikbal assistants, and a male cousin who commands the castle guard. Rosetta has heard that the guard commander is also Vinata’s lover, but that is unconfirmed. The objective is these four royals, not all eleven naga who entered the game.
A church-quest confrontation kills one required naga, and both Donut and Katia receive notifications. The group believes it was the guard commander. Posse forces occupy the throne room, but the other royals escape. Katia asks Carl to give Donut the orchid if their plan fails.[8]
The remaining required deaths defeat the Blood Sultanate
Vinata and her two cousins reach Khepri’s temple with their guards. Carl’s thermobaric attack kills the cousins and unprotected guards. Vinata survives under temporary immortality until the effect ends, when Kandy “Bigs” Newton kills her. Together with the earlier death, this accounts for all four royal targets.
The system declares the Blood Sultanate defeated. Its assets pass to Donut and Katia as surviving blood relatives, then to the Princess Posse under their agreement. No separate message confirms that either personal crown status has been erased, and Katia’s crown is not shown being removed.[9]
Katia later takes a different exit from the dungeon
After Huanxin dies, Katia can still receive the orchid’s boon. She chooses pregnancy because she wants to reach and help the surface children. She and Louis consent, and the system marks her ineligible and removes her alive from the dungeon. Her arrival at the facility and any rescue of the children are not shown.
Katia leaves by a different route and never needs to use the ninth-to-tenth-floor stairs. This happens after the Blood Sultanate’s defeat. It does not reveal what becomes of her physical crown or give a separate confirmation that every crown-related status has ended.[10]
