World Dungeon · Floor 1
Floor 1
Floor One introduces the World Dungeon through stone corridors, monster territories, goblin workshops and scattered refuges. The new crawlers have five days to learn the rules, find supplies and reach the stairs before the floor collapses.[1]

Layout and exploration
The area Carl explores is divided by broad halls into large squares that appear to contain four neighborhoods each. Smaller passages lead to nests, workshops, bosses and businesses. He places his entrance near the Puget Sound coast, but cannot see the dungeon’s full extent. Mordecai later corrects his early claim that these floors cover the whole planet.
The minimap marks crawlers, NPCs and hostile mobs, but shows only a limited area. Even its early enlarged view covers little more than a square mile, so stairs may lie beyond what Carl can see. Clearing a neighborhood can remove its original creatures while allowing others to move in from nearby areas.[2]

The five-day clock and descent
The five-day countdown continues in safe zones. Surface entrances close before the ways down become available, and seventy-five thousand stairways eventually open to Floor Two.
Descending is one-way. Crawlers who leave early enter stasis until Floor One collapses, while those leaving in its final six hours can act immediately below. Staying longer offers more time to train and collect rewards, but also means more danger. Mordecai says most stairs are unguarded, though some routes pass through boss territory.[3]

Tutorials, refuges and rewards
Tutorial guilds activate the interface and teach inventory, loot, spells and attributes. Once Carl and Donut register with Mordecai, later tutorial entrances take them back to his room. Race and class selection, along with assigning earned attribute points, waits until Floor Three.
Safe rooms provide food, rest and somewhere to open rewards. Some resemble Earth restaurants, while others offer fewer services. Personal Spaces travel with their owners between safe rooms and floors, and purchased crafting facilities may improve after descent. None of this protects someone who stays behind when the floor collapses.
Achievements and boss kills can award loot, although the party cannot immediately use every prize. Mordecai can review fights and explain missed clues, but his rules prevent him from simply giving away an unseen boss’s weaknesses.[4]

Creatures and inhabitants
Early enemies include lava-spitting Bad Llamas, rats, Scatterers with armored brood guardians and corrosive slimes. A small slime destroys part of Carl’s clothing, while Donut’s attack on a llama leaves her out of mana before the fight is over.
The goblins operate a workshop staffed by engineers, Bomb Bards and shamankas, using steam machinery and Murder Dozers. A Goblin Pass lets Carl’s party negotiate with them. Rory and Lorelai have their own duties, ambitions and families within this community.
The Hoarder is a transformed woman from Earth who remains frightened and aware of her family. The Ball of Swine is made from Tuskling aristocrats taken from an off-world gathering. Carl begins recognizing the people forced into the boss encounters the show celebrates.[5]

The first broadcast
The first floor appears in edited highlights rather than the live individual feeds available from Floor Two. The premiere emphasizes spectacular deaths and promising teams but omits Carl and Donut’s first boss fight. They need an audience if they want the patrons and supplies that popularity can bring.
The premiere also announces changes to the rules. Inventory exploits are closed, malfunctioning abilities are adjusted and the timing of the exits is explained. The broadcasts give crawlers information they need, even as they turn their struggle into entertainment.[6]

History
Book 1
Dungeon Crawler Carl
The entrance and Mordecai’s guild
A false tutorial sign leads Carl into a goblin ambush. Pursued by a Murder Dozer, he reaches Mordecai’s guild, survives his first fights and destroys the machine. Mordecai activates his interface and explains the achievements he has already earned.
The Enhanced Pet Biscuit gives Donut intelligence and the ability to become a crawler. Her spells complement Carl’s close-range fighting, though their first Bad Llama encounter quickly exposes how little experience and mana they have.[7]
The Hoarder and the goblin workshop
Attacking a Scatterer nest traps them in the Hoarder’s arena. Killing her ends the fight and destroys the remaining insects. Carl is shaken by the knowledge that the woman he killed was another victim of the dungeon.
The Goblin Pass lets them trade for a chopper and supplies at the workshop. Their visit ends in an explosion that kills its Neighborhood Boss and many civilians. The fire keeps Carl from recovering the boss’s map, leaving them without directions through the surrounding territory.[8]
Opening a route for Meadow Lark
The Meadow Lark caregivers are sheltering their elderly residents near a guarded stairwell. Another team entered its arena and never returned. Carl and Donut agree to help the four workers defeat the boss before the floor closes.
The level-fifteen Ball of Swine pursues them through a shifting maze. They shelter behind salvaged furniture and gym equipment, using the narrow spaces and Enchanted Shuriken of Bloodlust to break the boss apart. They must kill its remaining Tusklings before the stairs open.
The Borough Field Guide awarded for the victory identifies nearby monsters and their levels. With five hours left, Carl and Donut go down first to find somewhere safe for the residents.[9]
The first collapse
Brandon is still bringing residents into the new safe room when Floor One collapses. The crawler count drops to 1,292,526; more than seven hundred thousand die in the collapse alone. Twenty-four people who refused evacuation remain at the Waffle House. Those who escaped now face Floor Two’s countdown.[10]
