World Dungeon · Floor 12
Floor 12: Halls of Ascendency
The Halls of Ascendency occupy Floor Twelve and host the Celestial Ascendency, a competition between gods backed by wealthy sponsors. Its prize gives those sponsors influence over the crawl. For the crawlers approaching it, the tournament is another struggle whose rewards matter far more to the organizers than the people trying to survive.[1]

The contest and its prize
Mordecai says victory grants ten seasons on the crawl council. The organizations sponsoring deities can therefore gain a say in governing the show. The Nebulars’ support for Ysalte links their religious ambitions directly to Syndicate politics.
This season introduces retainer gods alongside the principal deities. Odette sponsors Nekhebit, a principal goddess restored when crawlers return her egg. Odette participates through the sponsorship, while Nekhebit remains a separate being.[2]

What the floor contains
Justice Light recalls serving with Dante in a twelfth-floor castle during an earlier season. Ice-elf servants cared for them there. His memories reveal inhabited estates and staff, though the current floor’s layout remains unknown.
The Court of Ascendency has room to receive entire cities. Sledge brings Larracos and the adjoining Shanty Town from Floor Nine using Zerzura. Their inhabitants have a protected interval before the contest begins.
Our illustration draws on the court and Justice Light’s remembered castle, with Nekhebit and an ice-elf attendant. The arrangement is an interpretation of these details rather than a map.[3]

Who can arrive early
The Orchid of Eileithyia’s Grace offers immediate transfer to Floor Twelve as a Celestial Attendant. The recipient becomes a temporary noncombatant NPC, with progression and inventory frozen until the Ascendency begins. No ordinary indenture contract is required.
Katia considers becoming an attendant, though Mordecai and Bautista warn that the role may still be dangerous. The orchid’s separate Constitution option also depends on the floor: it ends after Twelve or if Eileithyia dies.[1]

Sponsors, pilots and intervention
The divine tournament influences events well before the crawlers arrive. A Floor Nine hearing exposes celestial messaging that bypasses broadcast delays. Team Retribution later closes outside communication loopholes used by Ascendency players and the wealthy audience.
Another emergency action requires sponsors to pilot their gods personally. Summoning a deity now recalls its sponsor into the dungeon, exposing them to the battles they finance.
Gods can also impose their own ceremony rules. Eris protects mortal witnesses during her Ceremony of Chaos but immobilizes their minds and controls when the protection ends. If she lifts it in a packed crowd, those people can crush one another.[4]

What remains unrevealed
The survivors reach Floor Twelve at the end of A Parade of Horribles, but have yet to explore it on the page. Its complete geography, contestants, battles and route onward remain unrevealed.
What is known comes from earlier crawls, the evacuation to the Court of Ascendency and the AI’s new rules. The current tournament may differ substantially from the one sponsors expected.[5]

History
Book 1
Dungeon Crawler Carl
A goal for survivors
Mordecai knows of only one human reaching Floor Thirteen, where that crawler died within half an hour. He advises Carl and Donut to hold out until Twelve before negotiating an exit deal, hoping they can secure better terms.[6]

Book 2
Carl’s Doomsday Scenario
A glimpse of an earlier gate boss
Footage shows the Primal crawler Divine Guardian facing an enormous twelfth-floor gate boss in an earlier season. Mordecai says he died a minute later.[7]

Book 7
This Inevitable Ruin
The evacuation of Larracos
Sledge moves the connected Larracos and Shanty Town to the Court of Ascendency before Retribution’s defeat can kill its members. The evacuation carries eligible inhabitants, but excludes current and returning former crawlers. Dungeon-born mercenaries need to qualify as citizens too.[8]
The boundaries between realms break
Justice Light links the Gate’s open Nothing portal to a fairy trap connected to Twelve and a demon trap connected to Sheol. The Nothing breaks and drains into the Halls of Ascendency, Sheol and Scolopendra’s Lair, breaching the realms before the current crawlers arrive.[9]

Book 8
A Parade of Horribles
Fighting before arrival
Quasar reports that gods are already fighting on Twelve and unsponsored deities are growing stronger. Lucia later passes on Chalchiuhtlicue’s warning about beings gathering around the Ascendency.[10]
The throne becomes an immediate danger
After the Floor Eleven arena, the exit on Eighteen opens and the remaining deeper-floor timers stop until the Ascendency has a winner. Carl intends to delay that victory until everyone left inside can escape.
The AI then offers a greater prize: power over its expanding domain. It names gods, crawlers, NPCs, Residuals and other claimants, ending with the Unwashed. It warns that constructed gods can surpass its own power and that older beings are trying to enter. The contest now threatens to reach far beyond the dungeon.[5]
