Introduction
Hekla is an Icelandic archer and the leader of Brynhild’s Daughters. Her first recap appearance presents a commanding Valkyrie at the head of an organized group of women fighting through the dungeon.[1]
Appearance and Personality
Hekla’s Valkyrie persona and confident leadership give the Daughters a recognizable identity while many crawlers are still learning to survive.[1]
Her chosen race is Amazonian and her class Shieldmaiden. She speaks confidently about outliving her husband and rejects accusations that she abandoned him.[2]
Katia identifies Hekla as Eva’s former psychiatrist. In the dungeon, Hekla presents herself as a protector and manages her followers’ loyalties. After the concealed attack on Katia, she tries to dismiss it as a mistake and stops Eva from explaining their plan.
The broadcast later shows her husband’s death and her retaliation with one of his ribs. It also turns Katia’s fatal Rush into a deliberate revenge attack, simplifying the circumstances of Hekla’s death.[3]

Attributes and Abilities
Hekla fights as an Amazonian Shieldmaiden archer. She reunites the scattered Daughters and helps kill the Owlbear Borough boss. When distance prevents Katia from sharing enough experience, she arranges for her to travel with Carl and Donut.[4]
Her Enchanted Repeating Crossbow of the Scavenger Mother of Mothers can be used only by a woman. Every female party member, including Hekla, adds twenty-five percent to its damage and firing speed, giving her a strong reason to recruit women.
The crossbow has unlimited basic ammunition, accepts special bolts and grants Strength and Dexterity while held. Its base damage exceeds an ordinary crossbow, and its special bonuses apply to stock ammunition.[5]
Hekla uses Phased Bolts to strike Katia invisibly, leaving her bleeding despite repeated healing. Extracting the bolts reveals the attack behind injuries first attributed to the plow run. Hekla has no visible player-killer skulls before the confrontation.
She also orders Silfa to stop healing Katia and tells Silfa’s daughters to kill Carl if the plan goes wrong. Her control of the party lets her arrange attacks beyond those she carries out herself.[6]

Book 2
Carl’s Doomsday Scenario
Regrouping the Daughters and sending Katia
The broadcast reveals her Amazonian race and Shieldmaiden class as the Daughters regroup. She reaches level 25 after the Owlbear Borough kill and asks Carl and Donut to help Katia, who is too far away to gain enough shared experience.
When challenged by an audience member, Hekla says her husband abandoned her and would have caused both their deaths. Odette later warns Carl that Hekla wants Donut’s manager benefits and may dispose of him to obtain them.[7]

Book 3
The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook
The rescue alliance
Hekla shares useful Iron Tangle information through Katia. She arrives at level 33 with roughly thirty Daughters, entering the shared room through Katia’s permission. Glass Prison on their Krayvad helped them cross the employee portal.
She asks them to rescue roughly a thousand crawlers at Vermillion 101, including Li Jun. Carl suspects she wants recruits, while Katia is moved that Hekla returned for her.[8]
The concealed bolts and Hekla’s death
Katia turns herself into the rescue train’s plow. During the passage through the horde, Donut sees two invisible shots enter her. Extracting the bolts explains her continuing blood loss and damaged memory. Donut attacks Hekla before a ceasefire leaves Katia wounded and confused.
Hekla downplays the attack and tries to take charge again. Eva admits using Katia and humiliates her. Katia launches Rush at Eva, misses by less than a foot and kills Hekla instead. Hekla dies ranked second.[9]
The group she leaves behind
Silfa confirms that Hekla considered Katia an acceptable sacrifice to gain Donut and Mordecai. She reveals the orders given to herself and her daughters.
Eva inherits leadership, but members begin leaving the Daughters. Katia takes Hekla’s crossbow and Vermillion key so the rescue train can continue. The later recap shows Hekla’s husband’s death and revenge on the cactus, then portrays Katia’s accidental strike as intentional vengeance.[10]
