Pineapple Cabaret (Main Story)
The Pineapple Cabaret is a hidden refuge beside the entrance to Floor Seventeen. In Book Eight, Carl investigates a way to send people there before the race forces more of his friends to kill one another. This article covers its role in the main novels; the separate Cabaret story has its own spoiler setting.[1]

History
Book 8
A Parade of Horribles
A refuge hidden beside a death maze
Akuma first offers access through a coded invoice. He tells Carl to kill two teams and visit a modification shop alone, promising to smuggle his friends to the refuge. Carl refuses to kill people to meet the demand. Akuma later admits he wanted to force Carl into conflict with his friends so he would cooperate.
Akuma says two indentured former crawlers designed Floor Seventeen many seasons earlier: a lethal maze ending in an almost unkillable boss. After the approving showrunner was murdered, they remained as forgotten supervisors while later seasons reused the floor. They built a pocket dimension at its sole entrance instead of escaping to the surface. That hidden space became the Pineapple Cabaret.
According to Akuma, the Cabaret protects inhabitants from ordinary floor collapse but leaves them trapped inside. He says maintaining it required sacrifices without explaining all of them. The crawlers still need a way to get people out of the refuge.[2]
Awakening and the Worm Path
Akuma says depleted NPC reserves have forced the dungeon to reuse inhabitants too often, allowing old memories to break through their assigned identities. Herot’s Worm Path Method helps NPCs recognize what they really are. Akuma believes all NPCs are awakening and fears the showrunners will destroy them before another season.
Akuma names Herot and Menerva as the former crawlers who found ways to save NPCs and crawlers. Tipid remembers Herot’s season but cannot place Menerva’s. He warns Carl about awakened shadow mimics and about trusting the war mages.[3]
Why the mages need help reclaiming it
The mages left the Cabaret during Faction Wars to seek help from the Scavenger’s Daughter and her father. Their protection expired while they were away, and ogres, awakened shadow mimics and older creatures overran the refuge. Only five mages remain, so Akuma wants a fighting force to retake it. He hopes the expanding AI might now make a surface exit possible.
Akuma warns that worshippers entering the Cabaret will trigger a smite, although he does not fully understand the cause. This would exclude Osvaldo and Filipe, who worship Tupa. Jurgen later asks whether a willing god could change the rule. Carl does not know.[4]
The shop’s one-use portal
The group considers two entrances: a casino route and a shop exploit. Splash Zone says the old Nothing destination at the casino has been replaced by punishments. The shop plan uses Herot’s standing order to buy cleaner bots and Menerva’s access to a shop interface inside the Cabaret. The order is buying available bots, but nobody has yet tried using it to deliver a hidden crawler.
Mordecai modifies an XL carrier to hold a consenting crawler. It will break after roughly ten seconds, so the cleaner must swallow it, then be deactivated and sold. Its weight-based storage can hold what ordinary personal inventory cannot. A traveler could die, remain trapped in storage or later be caught by a floor collapse. The standing purchase order prevents a harmless full test of the sale.
Li Na volunteers because her worsening Left to Fester condition will not be cured by descending normally. Rosetta prepares a cactus linked to her trap: a single flower while it still glows means she endorses the route, dust means death in the dungeon, and other changes signal different outcomes. Zhang activates the carrier, Suckira swallows it and Donut completes the sale.[5]
Li Na signals, then hundreds follow
The AI warns Carl that it does not fully understand the Cabaret and that seemingly easy exits can be dangerous. Mordecai then reports a single flower on Li Na’s cactus. Under their agreed signals, she has reached the Cabaret and recommends sending others. They still have no confirmation of a surface exit or a cure for her condition.
The allies first favor human volunteers who do not worship gods. Besides Akuma’s smite warning, Rosetta fears that some magical bodies could not survive a surface zero zone. Mordecai later approves some animal forms. The travelers gather in Hungry Eyes and decide whether to risk the transfer.
Imani reports that 227 crawlers, in addition to Li Na, have been sent through sold bots. Zhang, Tran, Bautista, Archie and Randall 3 are among them. In the Garden of Deliverance, Ronit plants a life-linked monitor for each traveler. Wilting or dust means death; blooming means they have left the dungeon. These plants do not carry Li Na’s more detailed safe-route signal.
Mordecai later says all the transfer plants remain alive. He does not report that they have all bloomed, leaving the travelers’ progress beyond the sale uncertain.[6]
The fallback storage route
As the final heats threaten more forced killings, Carl considers a casino holding area outside the playing field. Rosetta and Tipid confirm such storage exists, but cannot promise Herot will retrieve everyone or that Pontiff can open the intended route. It may offer an alternative for people who cannot enter the Cabaret. The shadow mimic posing as Mitch later offers to lead them to the refuge during a failed ambush, giving Carl little reason to trust him.
The Louis Interlude reveals one group’s destination: Louis, Chris, Britney and Pontiff are pulled from storage into Sheol. Forkith says the Cabaret already has enough defenders and wants them for another front. They followed a different route from the cleaner-bot travelers, whose eventual surface escape remains unresolved.[7]
